Hullfox Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 When people can be bothered to read between the insults, it's quite an interesting thread really. One of the problems that seems to exist is that people jump on the inability of others to convey their exact feelings through the written word. I must admit that when I saw BM's comment about "even homosexuals" I initially thought similar to others. However, after seeing his posts for several months, I know that he wouldn't mean it in a malicious way and it's just his style. I have the benefit of more years to my name than most on the board and try and see the good in everybody. If everybody just looked again before posting, it might save a lot of trouble. However, the thread. Chavs, Casuals, it's all a load of bollocks really. People wear clothes for three reasons only. Comfort, image and cost. Turn the clock back 40 years and you had the BM's and MM's et al of that day dressed as Teddy Boys. 25 years ago many of us were dressed as New Romantics or punks. Guaranteed that at the time we wore those clothes because of the three reasons given above. I guarantee you also that when you get older, you'll look back and cringe at some of the stuff you wore. Fashions change and so do your image requirements. To me, the old burberry caps and bling doesn't look good but then i'd look a right willy puller in it i reckon. In 10 years time those of you who choose to wear it will probably think the same. However, if you like it now, wear it and don't give a hoot what anyone else says. As somebody else said, live and let live. It's people that matter.
Jonesy_rules Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 well said hullfox, spoken like a wiseperson (would have said man, but it's un p.c as i don't no your gender)!
HarisFox Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 On a messageboard, all you have to go on is what people type. What he typed was out of order, that's my point. It just bewilders me that one thread on here is slagging off racism, whilst in the next thread, the very same people are excusing a homophobic comment. Both should be condemned.
SarbannesFoxley Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Look, lets not turn this rape into a murder.
HarisFox Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Alright, fair enough. I'm just saying that it's inexcusable and to excuse it is almost as bad as making the comment in the first place.

If your going to condemn racism and homophobics comments then what about people taking the piss out of chavs (which i'm guilty of) and fat people? The reason the last two subjects seem more acceptbale to poke fun at is because there isn't a taboo about them. I'm not racist, i'm not homophobic but I am guilty of making comments about certain subjects that are no different really if you look at it. I'd also go as far as saying the majority of people on here say things about subjects that could be classed as offensive and not very nice but because it's not as sensitive as racism or sexism it goes un-noticed!! So where do we go from here? Perhaps we should all have our mouths sown up.
HarisFox Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 I try to discourage the pigeonholing of people, stereotyping and insults based on stereotypes. I believe in equality. Whatever someone's skin colour, weight, appearance, sexuality, people deserve respect. The fact that a lot of people do use words like 'fat' or 'chav' as an insult, it doesn't make it right. I know I can't stop it from happening, I just wanted to point out in the first place that whilst BM may not have meant any offence, he could well have caused a lot of offence to people.. Anyway, if people can't make a point without throwing in lots of insulting generalisations and stereotypical comments then perhaps yes they should have their mouths sewn up.

I was just trying to stick up for BM as time and time again people crucify him for things that perhaps could been avoided. Anyway we all support the citeh, why let petty things like this get us down.

HarisFox Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 You're right, we do all support the city and it is really a pretty pointless argument anyway. I've had a bad couple of days and apologise if I have upset anyone.
Guest Daniel Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Ive had alot of personal problems at home, Scowy understands this im not just saying it to get myself out of this, but i have had some terrible happenings at home and somethings ive said have come out wrong but like hullfox said, people look for it with me when it could be avoided. I did not mean offence by it and im sorry if i offended anyone.

Shoot the lot of um. 39169[/snapback] I disagree with gays completely, and it makes me cringe everytime I look at them. It's isn't normal and man was put on the earth for women and vice versa. But I respect gays for coming out of the closet as it takes a man to do so, and they should be treated fairly.
