dandannieldanok Posted 19 July 2006 Posted 19 July 2006 Anbody like golf? Its like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. I like golf and I am certainly looking forward to the British Open starting tomorrow, could be Monty's year. How many times has that been said before.

Mickelson has taken three weeks out to familiarise himself with the intracasies of the course and is my favourite but Ernie Els shouldn't be discounted and I'd love to see Darren Clarke finally maintain a challenge through to the end. I hope to go up there at least for one day. I went to the Open at Royal Lytham as a sports journalist many years ago and it was an occasion never to be forgotten. Another memory to match won't go amiss.

David Duval 250/1 for example.

Its not a bad game to play i'll admit, the summer isn't complete unless i've taken out the windscreen of some pretentious nob heads Jag with a extremly wide pitch. However watching Its like motor sport without any crashes or overtaking ( unless Monty falls over )

He's a serial bottler in the finest (worst?) British tradition (unless he's playing in the Ryder Cup ) Unless the wind blows, which looks unlikely, Tiger looks like strolling it..

I am backing him all the way. Another interesting thing will be Ian Poulters clothes which will probably be pink burberry knowing him.

The guy is an arrogant tosser basically, but at least he looks good doing it.

Oli Posted 19 July 2006 Posted 19 July 2006 Ian Poulter will be launching his own brand of clothing at The Open this year, a great character in golf and would love to see him do well this Open, a key member of the Ryder Cup team. Monty has never gave it the final push to win a major and his best is way behind I am sorry to say. Don't get me wrong though he is a quality team player.

We had a one eyed guy we nicknamed cyclops who joined our club and bought a state of the art electric trolley. First day he used it was in midwinter just after a period of fairly torrential rain. Anyway, a stream which crosses the fairway of the fourth hole at Ansty was in full flood. Unfortunately cyclops wasn't the greatest player and only ever used a wood from tee to green which made the chances of trouble even more likely. On this occasion he sliced his tee shot into long rough 35 yards short of the stream, left his sparkling new motorised trolley on the fairway and went in search of said ball with a three wood. Silently meanwhile, his trolley inched forward and gradually gathered speed. We watching all expected it to cut out after 20 yards or so but on it went, over the stream bank like a rhomboid tank and into the full flood below. With much difficulty we did extract the trolley but it was never going to work and cyclops retired the wiser from a hard-learned lesson. On another occasion at Peterborugh Milton a guy was so cheesed off to hit three successive tee shots into a lake that he lobbed his entire bag and clubs deep into the offending water, returned to the clubhouse for a few pints and finally walked back, waded out to forage beneath the water for his clubs, pulled his car keys from the bag pocket and left the £800-odd bag and clubs exactly where they were!

Els is well capable of staying with Woods although tactically, Woods seems to have worked out a battle plan and I imagine only superlative golf will overhaul him. Don't think I've ever seen such a variety of extraordinarily clever shots from a variety of golfers on one day - a hole in one, Woody's superlative four iron, a bunker shot off the knees, a putter out of and around the rim of a bunker and so many more. Magical!
