stez Posted 15 August 2006 Posted 15 August 2006 The Workhouse, but only because it was one of the few places where I could get served. i used to love going in the workhouse! a saturday would be R&D, crown and thistle (which got taken over by o'neils) the globe, that weird pub near the old ABC cinema, the workhouse (treck!) then the fanny. then hassans for a hassan burgr then AZoom taxis for a 10 - 15 minute wait Jug n Jive.........??? It's called something else know but in my younger days it was one of a few places that let me in!!!! yay! i had my 21st in jug and jive, it was owned by one of showadywady i think. When I was a hip swooner in 1988, we used to "hang" at 39 Steps, Helsinkis., Vin Quatres...etc Cant remember any others... A a more Lufbra lad, I started my drinking at the famous following about aged 13... yep we got served Cross Keys - Now Firkin I think Green Man - no longer under the shopping centre next to Tylers Casablanca Bitter End Sophies - next to the car park and sweeneys barbers White Horse. - was opposite the Friar Tuck Three Nuns - used to be owned by my next door neightbour- always tricky! the Griffin Crown and Cush Cherry tree AH the memories And the night was finished off at Sammys for "snog a dog" I suddenly feel about 346 years old! i think helsinkis has opened up again, the barman from my old college took it over for a while....before it shut down! the marten saracens head penny farthing leahs champion pack horse on corner painter street (chas keene; not the new one) hare and pheasant pickwick became the fan club i think.........surely the fan club is leicester oldest/longest running night club........i knowi've been going there for 16 years! anyway in my trendy period, me and the lads would usually roll up at brannigans/grab-a-granigans for a night of easy pulling.......
