Reason I'm considering taking it there is because is hasn't been serviced in 22 months and 12,600 miles. It's due one. I'm broke though. What do I do? Take it to a decent reputable non-Ford garage. Ford vehicles use easily-sourced parts, so you could get it serviced anywhere really without risking the integrity of your car. Shouldn't cost you as much to get it serviced at a mainstream garage chain. Just look around, see what prices you can find for a general service.

And I'm talking fu ck all. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Zero... I've changed that, checked the radiator stuff, down the screen wash, washed the car, basically all I know how to do. Pi ssed me off about the oil though. Should I be having to check that one month after buying the fu cking car?

(Back to my own self) My mechanic claims one should check the oil every week (I guess he likes spending time with his car). Personally, I thought you should be safe not worrying about the oil for a couple of months after buying a car... [but I am sure that Gordon will disagree with me]

There should be more than enough oil after the first month - unless of course there wasn't much in there to begin with.
The People's Hero Posted 17 August 2006 Posted 17 August 2006 I checked it... I really did. I then asked the advice of others.. so I bought some and changed it. Just a bit focked off at the state of oil supply when I bought it. No oil leaks, can be sure of that.

Don't get me wrong, no problems with the car.. it's a great car. I'm just a bit miffed about this.. it's nothing I can't handle, I can change oil, I just didn't expect to need to at this early stage.

It's fair enough.. but if my girlfriend or someone else had bought it, they wouldn't have checked till service. If that's a year - that's a year of engine wear. That sucks. Still... I need to get it serviced though to get it stamped... otherwise no fecker is gonna give me anything when I want to sell it.

Tell you what, I'll send you a rubber stamp of my local Ford garage, all you need is an ink pad and you're away. Some people might actually look at the stamp and say 'how the **** did you service your car in Canada?' but we call them picky bastards.

JadeFalcon Posted 18 August 2006 Posted 18 August 2006 the mileage clock on the dash is a good thing to go by ... match your clock to the car handbook if you have one that should tell you your service interval and what needs doing at those points ... the intervals are usually 3000m / 6000m / 10000m / 30000m / 60000m / 90000m

Cheers. it will need servicing now as its over a year ( its usually mileage/time) and that time over-rides any mileage you have done, i would not leave it too lomg now

I have done about 7000 miles... surely a car would not need a service after 7k miles?

Will definitely get it done soon though

No tell tale signs of problems on mine (although I don't know a lot about cars as I've said).. just that one of the speakers crackles big time which I hate. Oh and I have 2 fat mates a lift with 3 cricket bags and I suspect the suspension is fu cked!
