JadeFalcon Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 no i dont own the place or work there just that they fill me with confidence .. take for instance i took my car to a place on abbey lane to have a service done plus the nearside CV joint bearings were going... dont think it was done at all cause the bearings started crunching a week later (think he just pulled the cv boot off and slapped a load of grease in there... cv joint boot was split open aswell so i dont think he even replaced that for me and charged me £120 for the privilage+ i had to ask the mechanic for information like blood from a stone.. but when i went to westmann the guy talked me through what the problem could be without me having to ask him a thing, i can ring em up and ask em any question i like, they are only too happy to help
cisono Posted 16 August 2006 Author Posted 16 August 2006 basically your only complaint with the "garage" that did the job is that the new exhaust is noisy , and i agree with you it should and must be put right but the rest of your complaints are to do with your own need to cut costs and not taking preventative measures beforehand and this is not the fault of the garage where the work was done . Maybe you don't have the unlimited funds to keep your car as roadworthy as you should but this is not the fault of the garage either is it? Had you have had the work done on the first estimate your car would have been fixed at least 10 days earlier and maybe you would not have lost the contract , so it sounds very much like false economy to me. I'm sorry if i sound a little harsh but it sounds as though your problem for the most part has been self inflicted. I know there was a problem with the courier but the "garage" cannot be blamed for that. So who would you sue ? A man would have been treated just the same and so what are you intending to sue the garage for ?....just a poorly fitted exhaust, the rest of your complaints are irrelevant as the garage did not have say in what you decided to do. Hmm again I don't seem to have explained myself too well, I see... 1) I still don't know how to get the garage to fit this new exhaust properly... I now even doubt they are even able to!!! 2) I don't think I could be bothered to sue anyone. I KNOW the garage is not to blame for the late arrival of the gearbox. How many times do I have to say that? (I think the spare parts guys are not totally faultless, however). I do however feel strongly that this exhaust thing has not been done properly and that the car could have easily have been returned to me on Saturday (not the next Monday). 3) The rest of my post was mainly to illustrate how things seem to compound - a little thing goes wrong and soon it has wide, overreaching implications. Overall it feels like a nightmare (for instance, at first the RAC followed my car home, then I found out my usual mechanic was unavailable and had to ask the RAC to tow me to the garage: they first refused to tow it to the garage but next day they happily did so. Aargh!) The garage were willing participants in the buying of the second-hand gearbox (although - I will repeat it here - I do not blame THEM for the first gearbox never making it there). Let's leave it here, shall we... unless you have some advice on how to approach the sarchastic mechanic who doesn't seem to like exhausts much...

My usual mechanic is great and is pretty much like that (explaining everything etc - which I really like). Unfortunately he was busy moving to new premises and could not help in the short term... I will keep your recommendation in mind, cheers
JadeFalcon Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 cisono, i would take the car back to the garage and complain because the only way a brand new exhaust will blow is if the manifold gasket has'nt been changed when new exhaust put on or they've not welded it up properly ... or they have infact ripped you off and not put a new exhaust on there at all i would go back and explain to them that a brand new exhaust is not supposed to sound like that and that you want it putting right ASAP and that u will not be paying for the extra work took my sisters clio in for a new exhaust last week (MOT failure)... took an hour/hour-n-half for complete exhaust and new manifold gasket and total cost was £117

Let's leave it here, shall we... unless you have some advice on how to approach the sarchastic mechanic who doesn't seem to like exhausts much... i agreed with you in the first line that the garage is remiss in badly fitting your exhaust and they should correct it, but re-read your original rant about the garage and how you seemed to put the blame on everyones doorstep but your own. you were aware that there was an impending problem with the car (ie the hole in the gearbox) and chose foolishly to ignore it . There's no great conspiracy here, as you , the owner/ driver allowed what would have been a minor fault develop into a major one . ( i can only assume that the gearbox ran out of oil)so it is what i said earlier it is poor driving( ie not taking preventative measures to ensure the roadworthiness of your vehicle) that is the main cause of your misery so you have decided not to take any legal action.........wise

My mechanic had fixed the minor hole in the gearbox but warned me that the gearbox was on its way out (within a year). He was aware of the problem. I did not *ignore* the problem, I followed his advice but he was not around when I needed him and I had never had a gearbox problem before...
Dr The Singh Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 seems everybody is misreading your post Or is she misreading everyone else's!!

The People's Hero Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 My car looks great now the sun has come out. Badger Badger!
cisono Posted 16 August 2006 Author Posted 16 August 2006 I have to agree , the original post seemed to indicate that you cisono had been the victim of some sort of chauvinistic garage crook but as it now appears you knew about a developing fault in the gearbox that presumably could have been corrected for a small amount and end up blaming the whole of mankind for a series of events that could have easily been avoided, (other than the poorly fitted exhaust which really is bad but compared to her own foolhardiness this is quite minor) The sarcasm of the mechanic is probably a reflection of how you have spoken to them if your first / original post is anything to go by. I admit I was very annoyed when I wrote my first post. Did you even read my post? The gearbox had already been fixed but it was on its way out. Nothing could have prevented that. No, I could not have fixed it earlier for a smaller amount. I am not bl**dy careless! I said next to nothing to the garage people except "there seems to be some noise which wasn't there before". The sarchastic mechanic came out to check and said "oh, that is just the exhaust knocking on the side. If it bothers you, bring it back when you have 20 minutes and I'll fix it". I did that yesterday but after one hour's work (no charge of course!), the car still sounds pretty much the same (perhaps 20% improvement). Now, the problem I was seeking advice with was: - how many times should I keep going back? - will they ever manage to fix it? - is he actually trying to fix it? (or just pretending to, hitting the exhaust left and right at random) - did he actually replace the exhaust in the first place (I was never shown the old/broken one) - is this standard behaviour in your experience? I am simply not used to the sarchastic grin on this guy's face and I almost think he's hiding something.
cisono Posted 16 August 2006 Author Posted 16 August 2006 or is evryone misreading everyone's understanding of misreadership and misreaderment. You may be right there...

lookwhaticando Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 Let me guess, you're a woman? Are your deduction techniques so w*nk that you have to merely guess that cisono is female? Perhaps if you actually read things (you know, with your eyes) you'd have known the answer already. And what point are you trying to make?
cisono Posted 16 August 2006 Author Posted 16 August 2006 Let me guess, you're a woman? Let me guess, you can only write (deeply unwitty) one liners?
The People's Hero Posted 16 August 2006 Posted 16 August 2006 Let me guess, you can only write (deeply unwitty) one liners? Let's be honest, he doesn't have the monopoly on that. In fact, if it was a competitive sport, we could put out a mightily impressive XI.
