Finnegan Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Poor bastard. If ever it was in doubt, that's surely got to be the very last cherry on the very last icing on a very tall cake. His critics have been saying it for a long while now but surely that's got to be finally time to admit he's never going to be a major player for England again? As a Welshman and not a Falcons fan I'm obviously quietly smug about that, but as a human being and a follower of sports I have to say it's gutting. I really feel for the poor lad.
lookwhaticando Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Correct Link Shame, he was a star in 2003. How the great have fallen.
Ultra Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 It's a little premature to write his obits yet. We don't yet know the extent of his injury. If he is forced to retire, at least he can say he's been a World Cup winner - something NO Welshman will ever be!
Ultra Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 More like a Michael Owen (another Newcastle No. 10..)
lookwhaticando Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Rugby's Lee Morris? :pinch: Nope. At least Johnny's played competetively in the last 5 years. More like a Michael Owen (another Newcastle No. 10..) A fairer assessment.
Finnegan Posted 9 September 2006 Author Posted 9 September 2006 If he is forced to retire, I don't think it's that bad, I wasn't implying his career has literally finished, but I think it's about time the English rugby world admitted that his best is gone and he's never going to be a consistent performer again. The boy's body is a wreck. at least he can say he's been a World Cup winner - something NO Welshman will ever be! Er. Until 2007, you mean? 2003 is ancient history, please! Are we digging up rugby history now? Because duking it out with a Welshman over whose side is historically stronger isn't going to bring you English out on top, matey.

Finnegan Posted 9 September 2006 Author Posted 9 September 2006 Pft. World Cup. Just some crazy new-fangled, modernised tournament to keep rugby up with football! The Six Nations is a real tournament, none of this Japan, Georgia, Canada stuff! And when was the last time England won the Grand Slam!?

That little tournament we've won more times than you you mean P.S More Grand Slams, more Tripe Crowns
Finnegan Posted 9 September 2006 Author Posted 9 September 2006 Thanks to the Dean Richards / Martin Johnson eras of dominance and a poor lack of competition from the mid eighties onwards. Over the history of the tournament ourselves, and to be fair, France, are by far and away the most consistent performers. In the next five years we'll have re-over-taken you in terms of won championships, I'd put money on that.

Ah because Dean Richards and Martin Johnson were good players, and it's not our fault the rest of you were shit Come back when you have and we'll talk
Finnegan Posted 9 September 2006 Author Posted 9 September 2006 The proffesionalisation (that doesn't look right, I cba to spell check it) of the game was a bit of a culture shock for Ireland, Scotland and Wales really. You adapted better far better and your game evolved greatly, but the rest of us are catching up now and the Celtic League (now Magners League) really has improved the standards of our rugby week in and week out. It's our time and you boys are looking rather mediocre! Looking forward to hopefully having a fit squad in time for the six nations, two grand slams in three years sounds tastey.
