cisono Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 Yesterday I left my car with the mechanic, as I wasn't pleased with the power output and thought this little yellow light coming on at odd times was not a good sign either. He fixed it within the day (which is great) but, to test it was working ok (allegedly), he: - took my car onto the motorway - tried to push it as much as possible - used up a quarter of a tank of petrol (the equivalent of a return trip to Nottingham) Is it me or this is somewhat strange behaviour? And... if I receive a speeding fine in the post, surely I won't be liable for that?
The People's Hero Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 I'm taking mine in for a service on monday, bit concerned about the power steering and the brakes. Could cost me a few bob I reckon.

I reckon so too! You just reminded me that my brother's car needs new brakes and possibly new gearbox (or fixing current gearbox leak anyway). MINIMUM cost of repairs: £300-350 Better let him know... he might want to buy another car instead...

Anal, but necessary. As for speeding tickets, make sure your invoice is dated.

I imagine I can still insist that the date the work was carried out is indicated on the invoice?

I hate mechanics. now, not all mechanics are saints, but as its my 2nd trade i feel hurt by your words
Thracian Posted 6 October 2006 Posted 6 October 2006 I'll stand up for mechanics. Apart from a couple of bad experiences I've been well pleased with the help I've had. And right now I've got access to a guy who's as good a mechanic as I've come across in 40 years. He just lives to mend anything with an engine. And if mending's not worth the effort he says so and gets a decent replacement vehicle - won't release it til it's spot on and saves me a packet.

He tried to fix everything the others didn't quite do properly. He also forgets to bill you for 1/2 year or so (free credit!)
