davieG Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 Why do the OS keep insulting our intelligence with the repeated sound bites and spin supposedly spouted by the players? I know we don’t have to visit or even read it but it is our club and I would like to be treated with a modicum of respect. Today’s special by Jordon Stewart – yes like we believe that! Jordan Stewart says that City will be working doubly hard on the training ground next week following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Reading. How can you work doubly hard is that supposed to impress us? Second half goals from Steve Sidwell and Ivar Ingimarsson condemned the Foxes to only their second reverse since the appointment of boss Craig Levein at the end of October. And now Stewart, who has featured in all but three of City's league fixtures this campaign, believes that good honest hard work will get the Foxes back in the groove once again. Yes well why don’t you (all players) try it during the game please! He said: "All in all it was a disappointing performance from us. "At half time the manager has asked us to step up the momentum, but we never really got going. "We had a few chances during the game. Lilian Nalis' shot was handled on the line towards the end of the first half, so we didn't have a lot of luck there. "They have scored off set pieces which as a rule we are good at defending. That's usually one of our strengths. "Their first goal was hit well right on the edge of the box and has flown into the top corner. But their second has come from poor defending from us really. I think you’ll find the first goal was appalling defending! "It's not the end of the world and we'll be back. We've got a good chance to get things back on track at Nottingham Forest next Friday night so we will be working hard on the training pitches this week. "I wasn't really happy with the way I played. I could have done better, especially in the first half and I hesitated on the ball a few times. But I'll be working hard on that starting on Monday. "I got forward a few times during the game. I had a chance to get a shot off on goal but at first I thought it was offside. My touch took it inside and looking back on it that was the wrong option. "We need to get a winning streak going now and there is a great chance for us to do that with a busy period coming up." We had one going, well 2 games, wouldn’t have been easier to keep this going that starting again? Is that fair or is it just me feeling particularly fed up.
Cat Burger Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 They Spin off spiel every day on that site, I wouldn't take any notice. Usually my opinion when it comes to the OS is that if the article isn't about a new signing or breaking news within the club, I'm not interested.

They can't say anything out of the ordinary because they're not really allowed to have an opinion, well at least express their opinion. Jordan couldn't have said I think Gemmill was shocking today and Nalis wasn't as good as usual because he has to work with these people day in day out and also Levein is the only person who is allowed to say in interviews how poor someone was and he hasn't said that players were poor very often either. I think these interviews make some footbalers seem more 'dim' then they really are because if you were one of Jordan's mate and you were having a conversation he wouldn't be coming up with the same mundane answers. He'd give you his opinions too.

Well there's three options: 1) Do no interviews for anyone. This would probably anger the supporters like when Joe Kinnear wouldn't do press conferences and Notts Forest. 2) Give out a positive message to the fans. The safe option. Keeps the fans in the picture and a little reassurance. Tell them you'll be working hard. 3) Give a negative downbeat message to the fans. The dodgy answer. Try to gee the players up by saying they were rubbish. Completely slate them. Can cause disruption in the squad and the fans begin to think you don't know what you're doing and you have no ideas on ways forward. Our club give out the safe message even if it's not entirely true. I'm just happy that the staff communicate with us in some way and if you're sick with the mundane answers pose some questions to the staff face to face and they're usually more honest unless they really can't tell you something.

It's the same clichéd interviews every week. Keown and Lil are the only players I look forward to hearing from.

They should actually interview Kenny Black because he speaks his mind and is funny.
davieG Posted 12 December 2004 Author Posted 12 December 2004 Well the whole exercise is insulting to the fans with the exception of anyone under five and is therefore totally counter productive. I don't believe for one minute a single word has come from the players, the same person writes it every week as it's the same phrases and style just said in different order. I'm happy to read waht CL thinks as he is usually forthright and says it as it is, all within reason natuarally. On that basis I'd prefer no comments from the players at all.
Scow Posted 12 December 2004 Posted 12 December 2004 ''We'll be working hard on the training ground to put things right.'' ''Back to basics.'' Two phrases which are probably the most commonly used in football. You hear this bleated out by most football manager/players after a defeat. It's tedious, predictable, and boring. Speak the truth, or don't speak at all.
