cisono Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 Swindon-based, a lot of great tunes. Forgotten? Look at this: Nope
MC Prussian Posted 23 October 2006 Author Posted 23 October 2006 Nope Well, they were big in the late 70ies up to the mid-80ies. Doubt that the young 'uns on here recall their songs at all...
Ultra Posted 23 October 2006 Posted 23 October 2006 Well worth checking out, especially their tracks "Making Plans For Nigel" and "Senses Working Overtime".
MC Prussian Posted 23 October 2006 Author Posted 23 October 2006 Well worth checking out, especially their tracks "Making Plans For Nigel" and "Senses Working Overtime". Then I guess you'll love this one here
Head Honcho Posted 24 October 2006 Posted 24 October 2006 Now this is my kind of music. Barry Andrews was a top keyboard player who founded another great band called Shriekback with Dave Allen from another of my favourite bands Gang of Four. Although XTC were a great band. I put much of their success down to Steve Lillywhite their producer, this man is a genius! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Lillywhite
MC Prussian Posted 24 October 2006 Author Posted 24 October 2006 What strikes me most is the musical influences you can draw between all those different bands. XTC, Shriekback, Gang Of Four, Fugazi, Velvet Underground, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Rush, U2, Dave Matthews Band, Franz Ferdinand, The Rapture, Bloc Party, Radio 4... they're all somehow connected, a part of them thanks to Steve Lillywhite, which I think is an intriguing fact. Feels like a treasure hunt in a way. Btw, I just listened to the Remix of GO4's "I Love A Man In A Uniform". Great tune, I must admit. And this is a great quote from Andy Gill about love songs and his monologue in "(Love Like) Anthrax": ""Love crops up quite a lot as something to sing about, 'cause most groups make most of their songs about falling in love, or how happy they are to be in love, and you occasionally wonder why these groups do sing about it all the time."
Ultra Posted 25 October 2006 Posted 25 October 2006 Steve Lillywhite was also the ex-husband of Kirsty McColl, and was involved with some of her best work. Shame's she's not still with us..
MC Prussian Posted 25 October 2006 Author Posted 25 October 2006 Steve Lillywhite was also the ex-husband of Kirsty McColl, a nd was involved with some of her best work. Shame's she's not still with us.. Bloody Mexicans, that's all I can say. :pinch:
Daggers Posted 25 October 2006 Posted 25 October 2006 Bloody Mexicans, that's all I can say. :pinch: ...but they invented damn fine food. Heaven is a place where Enchiladas Rojas swim in lakes of salsa.
Head Honcho Posted 25 October 2006 Posted 25 October 2006 Bloody Mexicans, that's all I can say. :pinch: One of the most corrupt countries in the world! http://www.justiceforkirsty.org/
MC Prussian Posted 25 October 2006 Author Posted 25 October 2006 One of the most corrupt countries in the world! http://www.justiceforkirsty.org/ But to be honest, the ones that I met personally whilst being in Vancouver were top-notch people. Probably because the Mexican Intelligenzija finds it freedom outside of the mothercountry.
MC Prussian Posted 26 October 2006 Author Posted 26 October 2006 Coming back to XTC, style-wise I somehow feel a close relationship to Tears For Fears and, through a detour, Ween. It must be that special crudeness.
