Rincewind Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 The bloke who done my PC downloaded The Detonater with Wesley Snipes. Has anyone seen it? Didn't realise films could be put on the PC without DVD. For future reference how do you do it? I think I'll watch it now but first I'll get meself a coffee and a P. .
hairy Posted 30 November 2006 Posted 30 November 2006 They used a different format to DVD. Usually avi, divx, vcd, svcd or mpeg. These formats are smaller than DVDs but can be converted to DVD to watch on your stand alone DVD player. Typically the films are either 700mb or 1.3gig instead of 4.7gig of a DVD. That makes them quicker to download off the net. You can download movies from all sorts of sites. You can download TV programmes too. The only problem with these formats is you have to make sure you have the latest codecs to watch them. A codec is the latest and most upto date code for the format. If you dont have it installed on your PC you will get no picture but sometimes sound depending on the format. Does that answer your question?

Problems can include the audio and visual not quite matching up (as they are encoded separately), no picture quality ie poor resolution to keep file size down and when it's just been filmed in a cinema
Rincewind Posted 30 November 2006 Author Posted 30 November 2006 Well it played OK. Like I said My PC was upgraded. I have no DVD drive. I'm told theres updates available after I watched the thing. The film did seem to stall a little but not enough tobe too obvious. Not really my type of film but it was OK I may check other films out if I have time.
