Daggers Posted 15 December 2006 Posted 15 December 2006 There used to be a point in time when I thought Mark Thomas was one of the funniest comedians working the circuit. In fact, one of my best nights out at a club was in Islington - the ceiling was head height, the smoke was knee deep and I hurt, deeply hurt, from laughing. Tonight I sat through a two act set. That's a lie, we never went back for the second half. The premise was 'two gags & a very long rant about the evils of gun selling'. Yup, guns are bad. Killing people is bad...but for ****s sake Mark...tell me a joke! It was like an onslaught of extremist Guardian readers, give them death or story. RIP the comedy of Mark Thomas.
stez Posted 15 December 2006 Posted 15 December 2006 i used to swear by watching his comedy product and have, in the past, used some of the information i got from him, but your post probably answers my concern as to why he's not been on telly for ages! good on him for having his principles etc and he obviously researches his topics very deeply, but you do go to a comedy show, for...errrr....comedy
Daggers Posted 15 December 2006 Author Posted 15 December 2006 You haven't been to Jongleurs much then? I went to the one in London shortly after it opened and was treated to a discussion about periods, shopping, men being crap at everything and more period stuff. I walked out on that one too... Before we went off to sunny climes there was nothing I enjoyed on a Saturday than a good comedy club, it seems all the gags have been told already...is there anyone worth seeing anymore?
Daggers Posted 15 December 2006 Author Posted 15 December 2006 *** Please God - no one say that unfunny pair of tw@ts from Li**le Bri*ain ***
Suffolk_fox Posted 15 December 2006 Posted 15 December 2006 I went to see Lee Evans at DeMontfort Hall a few years back. He never ever fails to make me laugh out loud. He sweats so much! He uses more towels than an olympic swimming team! QI, Have I got news and Buzzcocks are my faves on telly, but then I digress off topic....

When you've seen one act you've generally seen them all. I was most disappointed by Hattie Hayridge "periods, innit? Men, innit? Periods, innit?....." ad nauseum.Having said that, there's a scottish chap who uses music, who is funny, and we also went back in August and two out of the three made me laugh.
Suffolk_fox Posted 15 December 2006 Posted 15 December 2006 Oh, and of course those two off Little Britain....

It's a shame, he used to be funny. Long time ago, mind. Does anyone remember a thing he did a while back, when he tried to convince an audience of members of the Labour Party (sorry, New Labour) that New Labour is bad? At the end of the completely laughter-free show he passed round a bucket so disgusted New Labour members could to hand in their membership cards. Only about one person did. He couldn't even convince people that Tony Blair is a twat. How bad is that? Coming to think of it, Rory Bremner ain't as funny as he used to be. They should pay more attention to Rob Newman, who shows that you can be funny and 'political' at the same time.
