Nashy Posted 25 May 2005 Posted 25 May 2005 It interests me as wolves fan how many of you adopt a dislike for us. I've never really understood the need for it. I live with a leicester fan (I think he might be sheffield_fox on here) and was surprised to learn some time ago that you have a communal little 'cheer' when we lose. This sentiment is not echoed at molineux at all. There's no rivalry there whatsoever from my point of view. Your miles away, in a different reigon, and despite what you and many newsreaders like to believe, it is not a local derby. It's just a game that's not too far away The difference in perception might be attributed to the fact that we have an eternal rival 7 miles away within our own conurbation with whom we share large areas of fanbase. The albion account for 95% of our hatred. Leicester however look to 20 miles & beyond for a derby. It has always puzzled me how coventry stoke and leicester fans I meet view us as rivals. We have 3 derbies- villa blues and albion (and I suppose walsall if we're being picky) the rest (ie stoke coventry derby and leicester) are just games that happen fortunately not to be at the other end of the country. Barring some sort of major tectonic activity, leicester will remin about 35 (??) miles from molineux and no sort of rival and constitiute no sort of dislike. That was a bit of a ramble wasn't it!!
MC Prussian Posted 25 May 2005 Posted 25 May 2005 I can't understand it anyway why Wolves should be one of our biggest rivals. They simply are too far away and I don't feel negative about them. Same goes for the Brum area with City and Villa. Forest, Derby and maybe Coventry are considered our main adversaries. But with the Trees gone done, that leaves us with only the Sheep and Cov left and I believe some people are so bored that they feel a certain need to "create" new competition, trying others to "hate" the opposing team. Wolves? No No. I personally can't stand all those glory hunters that support teams that they have no connection to whatsoever, like Arsenal, ManU, Chelsea or Liverpool. If Middlesbrough won the UEFA Cup, I'm sure, those "fashion fans" would wear the Boro Red instantly.

I've tried to question several leicester on it before and they dont come up with any relevant reason (baring in mind you dont have to if someone's within 20 miles!) and I've got them to see the light by the end of the conversation. I think the McGhee thing might be the only other issue. Didnt he say I have to go to wolves as they're a bigger club?? anyway, I wish you'd kept him!
