Our Defence today

Looking at the ratings there is obviously a difference of opinion on individual players but I've noticed a sinnificant difference regarding our 3 man defence.

In my opinion, which is reflected in my ratings they were pretty much the worst players on the pitch. Ok they defended well and were under the cosh a lot but 70 to 80% of that was caused directly by themselves with their totally awful distribution they continually either pumped the ball straight back up to the QPR back line, or played short passes to the QPR midfield or just carelessly kicked it out of play. When they weren't doing that they were commiting silly fouls right across the pitch giving QPR dangerous free kicks. Have they not learnt that if you push a player in the back with your chest it's still a foul for christ sake.

In my mind that is not good defending it's not even average defending, from 3 players with their pedigree I'd say it was totally piss poor defending.

Now my News Years resolution is already broken as I resolved to be more optimistic about LCFC ( I did predict a 4-1 win with Connolly scoring) and to try to see the good things about the team but they are really, really hard to find.

I thought Makin was our best defender today, but Dion did do very well with dealing with the long ball and long throw in's. Not to many people agree with me about makin, i don;t undersatnd :ermm:

dion was awesome in the air and made some vital tackles but his distribution lacked accurary at times

I noticed that too Davie. In the first half Taylor was just bowling the ball out to Dublin (probably because he can't kick the ball to save his life) and Dublin was just passing it long wasting it everytime. He did ok defensively but our line up was so negative, inviting pressure. Levein after the match signaled Dublin out as one of the best performers, i was hopeful he wouldnt stay around much longer :(

Although the three centre backs that played today are vastly experienced in my opinion they seriously lack in championship experience. A couple of seasons ago we had gerry taggert and matt elliot who would just deal with anything that was thrown at them, danny cullip is a class example of this.

I'd agree with both those comments. Dublin was solid in defence but did give the ball away stupidly and also gave some needless free-kicks to them.

Keown surprised me, the amount of times he played those wasteful long passes. I expect it from both Dublin and Dabizas, but Keown looked out of sorts today.

Don't forget about three players all going for the same ball at the same time in the box and all bumping into each other, it happened more than once, where was the communication?
