Guest Posted 4 January 2005 Posted 4 January 2005 Quite a few ex pros play at a low (non league)level. But ppl like Becks wont play that level because a) it would be hard with media etc2) Dont need to although it may sound like im contrdicting myself i know what i mean 51664 A few do, but a lot don't. Once something you do for fun becomes a job, your whole attitude towards it changes in the long run. Look at all the old pro's who when they retire say they love playing the game, it's all they live for etc etc etc, but they don't carry on playing at any level, for whatever reason, whether it be injury, tiredness or being sick and tired of it all. It doesn't alter the fact that the outlook of the professional player towards the game and that of Joe Bloggs, the man on the street, is different. If it was the same, then we wouldn't need to pay players extortionate sums of money to play. The agent would be redundant. Newspapers wouldn't report on them to increase sales etc.
BartonFox Posted 4 January 2005 Posted 4 January 2005 the reason people play football is FUN. when i say people i mean pros, amatures, kids , anyone you play because you enjoy it. 51639 smart man. something i also want to add, ur signature its absolutely brilliant. The ade one 51645 So there's no need for signing on fees, huge wages, sponsorship deals, publicity....... 51647 I think you find all lcfc players play 4 fun and if they didnt play pro would still play for a non league team or even a pub side they jus wanna play imo 51652 All players start playing for fun, but somewhere along the line money comes into it, and attitudes change. How many ex-pro's play Sunday league when they retire? I'm sure Beckham is counting down the days until he can play for his local when he's retired from the professional game. 51661 i would stick my neck out and say nearly all our 90's team that have retired are playing still at amaturer level. Went to see blyth spartons play the other month and a sneaky graham Fenton was on the bench! thats the unibond!!! You would be suprised how many ex pros turn out for sunday league, and they love just as much as stepping out at Wembley! 51666 While I agree with you about the enjoyment, I'd just like to point out that Graham Fenton is on the bench as that is his job - he's the manager or the assistant manager. How many of us actaully like our work? We do the jobs because we are good at them and we get paid for it. Not everyone enjoys their jobs. Some running back in the NFL turned his back in millions because he hated the game. Admittedly rumours are he was about to fail a drugs test but thats just specualation. A lot of these guys carry on because that is all they know and they try to continue making money out of non league clubs. I've played with a few who are only there because my side can offer a tenner more. edited because I had the grammer of a 12 year old.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 4 January 2005 Posted 4 January 2005 I very rarely boo, and I mean very rarely, but I've felt the need to do it twice this season already. It's alright saying we're supporters, our job is to support the team but I didn't hear much support yesterday from anyone. Anyway, if a child was misbehaving at school would their parent just say well done and let them carry on? No is the answer they give them an ear bashing for their own good to make them realise that it's not acceptable. Hopefulluy they'll start to knuckle down for their own good. It doesn't mean their parent doesn't love them. They're doing it make their kid work harder and that's a vague comparison to us as fans.

The terry henrys will retire multi millionaires and although they still want to play footy on a sunday, as bedford fox pointed out, todays vicious media would have a field day. I think people wrongly instantly associate the words pro footballer with your premiership and international stars when really there are 100,000s more pro footballers in the world who are making an honest living and love the game just as much as we all do.

Not all of the 100,000s of pro players you refer to go on to play at lower levels. If you're already playing at a lower level, you aren't going to be under the same situation as your 'Henry's' are you? This arguement has arisen from the discussion of booing our own team, which is loaded with ex-Premiership has-beens, so this is where we get our justification from. Besides, if football is such a fantastic job, then why do players at all levels have personal problems? Does this suggest to you that these guys love their work? Can you not see that even footballers can get fed up with work just like the rest of us? As I've said before, once you start being paid for doing something you love, your attitude changes for many reasons. The more you are paid, the less appealing the job is and the more important the pay-off. They don't say money breeds money for nothing you know. We've seen it here, where players have been brought in from lower divisions, and their attitudes change with their salary increases.
Muz Posted 4 January 2005 Posted 4 January 2005 So we should clap everytime Leicester play. If they play Crap and dont put 110% in then we have a right to boo them.We pay our money we can do what we like. So dont try telling us what to so or not to do thanks.
davieG Posted 4 January 2005 Posted 4 January 2005 Now I'm not one to Boo players but the point here is not at what level a footballer player plays but whether one, as a spectator has to pay to watch. Once there are paying customers the players prime responsibility is to those spectators, not whether he's having a good time etc. So if they do not deliver their side of the contract in the eyes of the customer then the customer is entitled to voice their disatisfaction. How they do that is down to them. Now it's very difficult , nay almost impossible to confront those guilty players you could hardly call across to them during or after the game to have a quiet word and say for example " I say old chap that was a pretty piss poor performance today and I'm very unhappy about it, what are going to do to improve?". So out of sheer frustration what are you left with, you either moan to yourself, your mates, your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend, kick the cat or you Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
