Pedro Mendes

We all know what Ben Thatcher did earlier in the season.

The two teams met up again at Fratton Park and this time it was Joey Barton to target Pedro.

Can you seriously call that ''tackle'' as ''intentional'' ?

Joey's dark side was seen again tonight..

Just like the Thatcher incident Mendes should have been booked for simulation.

These long haired europoofs are ruining the game here.

joey bartons was accidental. he just left his foot in and caught his heel by accident. but because its the thug barton its seen as malicious intent to hurt.

I agree, I thought it looked like an accident.

Just because he happens to get injured against the same team people make a big thing out of it.

Redknapp is wrong in saying Barton should have been sent off for that. It wasn't the malicious, evil challenge it has been made out to be. Infact, it wasn't really a challenge. His studs just caught the back of Mendes' ankle as he was chasing him.

did none of you notice the fact that he looked down just before he did it. clearly intentional for me. its a shame as without the lack of discipline barton would be top class player - i would have him or kevin nolan in the england 11 instead of fat frank lampard

I agree, he knew exactly what he was doing, the ball was not on Mendes's heel was it? So how could he possibly believe that the ball was to be won like that.

At least some people can see the intention, although I can accept opinions.

If that would have been the other way round then the reaction would have been less. Its just Barton is seen as a media 'hate' figure (and prob rightly so for some of the stunts he has pulled). He was just running at speed and stepped on his ancle by mistake, i have played foorball for 20 years and lost count of how many times i have/had done to me a step onsomeones foot, heel etc.

I think the Barton one is a bit like the Stephen Hunt one on Cech, although nowhere near as bad. I think in the heat of the moment he went to clip him, but not to hurt him.

Thatcher's on the other hand was just absolute mindless violence.

Bring back the Grame Souness stand on someones knee challenge. Its amazing that as many careers werent ended in the old days looking back at the horrific challenges they used to make.

Barton will always get bad press regardless. The papers have had it in for him since hsi brother messed up and whatever he does gets blown up out of proportion. I cant believe that he would be so stupid with all these camera`s about and the increased spotlight on Mendez and Man City that he would purposely step on Mendez. Although to be fair he does look like a dumb fook!! :P
