Fox in a Box Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 Ok, In the 90's It was the MIGHTY LCFC who was being talked of as an unfashionable team doing the business and winning things. We had quite a good team if you look back now. Well If they were on performance related pay thed be getting big bonuses for winning CUPS etc. THIS IS WHERE FOOTBALL HAS GOT IT WRONG. Salaries were given at a whim, 10K here 18K there......... Its a results industry and should be paid accordingly. If the player had a retaining wage lets say £5K and add-ons dependant on results and position in the table this would make them work alot harder Ill tell you!!! What do you think.?
Louise Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I imagine all the new contracts are performance related anyway. It's just the old ones you can't change.

Guest Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 I agree with PRP for footballers. I also think wages should be capped. When Jimmy Hill had the wage cap removed, things were different; nowadays top footballers can earn decent money through sponsorship and endorsements.
Foxes_Trust Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 We can confirm the current contracts are performance related. Players used to get an appearance fee - the current contracts award for points gained, so wins or draws - defeats = no bonus. As previously documented, the weekly wage is dependent on which division we are playing in.
Scarby Posted 19 January 2005 Posted 19 January 2005 its disgusting they got more in a week than the average Joe gets in a year. football im a shamed to say is a business not a sport
Anish Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 its disgusting they got more in a weekn than the average gets in a year. football im a shamed to say is a business not a sport 56534[/snapback] Yep I agree completely - some of the current LCFC players get paid more than double my yearly salary in just one week - and it's not exactly hard work and long hours being a professional footballer.

I dont think they look upon it as a problem when you here that ZZ gets 100K+ a week makes me sick when there are people starving and homeless in the worldl.
BartonFox Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 The PFA are none to keen on PRP though as they are greedy fookers. The more players earn the more they can pay in dues and the more that fat runt Gordon Taylor can cream off for himself in his inexplicably large salary. Of course the contracts should be incentivised (if that is a word!!!) a basic weekly with add ons depending on how well you do. Glad to hear that is the way City are operating these days. Still makes you wonder if it is still a bit too cushy for the players because there only seems to be desire in a few inviduals.

At least he gives out a lot to charity and to helpful causes. He's arguably the best footballer since Maradona, so if anyone deserves a high salary, he does. The real crooks are the corporate chiefs et al... they do fook all and practically criminally steal the money...
