isaidno Posted 8 March 2007 Author Posted 8 March 2007 Rossi fastest in second practice Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards topped the timesheets for Yamaha in the second practice session at Qatar on Thursday. Rossi set his best time early in the session, while morning pace-setter Edwards was strong again to be second fastest. Casey Stoner was also strong again after having a positive morning, and the new Ducati rider was third quickest in the afternoon. John Hopkins was showing no signs of struggling with the injuries he sustained in testing at the Losail track last month, as he went fourth quickest for Suzuki. Reigning world champion Nicky Hayden struggled in both of Thursday's sessions, and the Honda rider ended the day down in 15th place. Pos Rider Team Time Laps 1. isaidno Posted 9 March 2007 Author Posted 9 March 2007 Rossi snatches last-gasp Qatar pole Valentino Rossi left it until the dying seconds of qualifying to capture pole position for this weekend's MotoGP season opener in Qatar. The Fiat Yamaha Team rider had been one of the favourite to take the top spot, but MotoGP's new tyres rules meant that nothing was guaranteed as everyone left it until right at the end of the session to set their best laps. With riders struggling to find a clear track as they attempted to set their quick laps, the outcome was uncertain until Rossi pipped Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stone by just five hundredths of a second right before the chequered flag came out. Rossi's teammate Colin Edwards, who had been quickest in the morning free practice session, had been near the top of the timing sheets for much of qualifying but eventually ended up third. Honda Gresini's Toni Elias bounced back from a mid-session run across the gravel trap to take the fourth best time - and surprised many by being the quickest Honda rider out there. Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa took fifth on the grid, with Rizla Suzuki's John Hopkins ending up sixth - probably slightly further down that he was expecting after being one of Yamaha's closest challengers throughout practice. Behind Ducati's Marlboro's Loris Capirossi in seventh, Frenchman Randy de Puniet put in a better than expected performance for Kawasaki - having been at the top of the time sheets for much of the session. De Puniet was believed to have been one of the first riders to use qualifying tyres, and duly had been on pole from halfway through the session until other riders followed suit near the end. As well as the excitement on track, there were a few off-track incidents. Marco Melandri ran wide after trying a late outbraking move on his teammate Elias, while Shinya Nakano crashed after losing the front end of his bike before the final dash for times. Jeremy McWilliams was unable to match the pace he had set in practice on his Ilmor, and the Ulsterman will start the race in 20th position after he had a high-speed crash towards the end of the session. isaidno Posted 10 March 2007 Author Posted 10 March 2007 McWilliams' participation still in doubt Injured Ilmor rider Jeremy McWilliams will leave the decision about his participation in today's MotoGP season opener as late as possible, but is looking increasingly unlikely to contest the race. McWilliams crashed in yesterday's qualifying session and aggravated the still healing leg injury that he had sustained in testing at Jerez last autumn. He sat out this morning's warm-up session and manager Drew Wylie admitted that he may now have to miss the race as well. "He's still very stiff and sore," Wylie told autosport.com. "So we have to hold the decision as long as we can. "At the moment, it's looking more likely that he won't race.

isaidno Posted 12 March 2007 Author Posted 12 March 2007 I see my driver crashed out too.. unless I turned blind for 60 seconds. Tamada apologises to Tech 3 Makoto Tamada apologised to the Dunlop Tech 3 Yamaha team for his performance after coming last of the classified finishers in the season-opening Grand Prix of Qatar. The experienced former MotoGP race winner took 16th at Losail, seven seconds behind his rookie teammate Sylvain Guintoli. "I am very sorry to the team and Dunlop for the result but I have never liked this track as I can never find the grip I like as I find it very slippery and the camber of the corners doesn't suit my style," said Tamada. "The tyres were good but I do not have the confidence at this track to push very hard and to make things worse I felt some chattering at the front as I think the tyre moved on the rim. "Now I want to forget all about Qatar and move onto the next race in Spain." Tamada's performance left team boss Herve Poncharal frustrated. "I am quite disappointed because we tested here three weeks ago and he did a good race simulation then, but for some reason he was never feeling good here this weekend," Poncharal said. "We tried everything we could but it is more a rider problem than anything else." But the team was much happier with Guintoli, who scored a point for 15th. "I am very pleased with what Sylvain has done this weekend as session after session he has been improving," siad Poncharal. "He secured a very decent qualifying position, qualifying time and scored his first point in MotoGP and he was really consistent with his lap times until the end of the race."
