davieG Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Man U 9 points clear with a massively superior goal difference although an extra game played and riding their luck! Charlton, West Ham & Watford at least 6 points adrift and a much poorer goal diffference! Can't really see it finishing any other way now. 1 Man Utd 28 46 69 2 Chelsea 27 29 60 3 Liverpool 28 25 53 4 Arsenal 26 26 49 5 Bolton 28 1 47 6 Reading 28 6 43 7 Everton 28 11 42 8 Portsmouth 28 7 41 9 Tottenham 28 -4 39 10 Blackburn 28 -5 37 11 Newcastle 28 -3 36 12 Middlesbrough 28 -2 35 13 Aston Villa 27 -5 32 14 Fulham 28 -13 32 15 Man City 26 -12 30 16 Sheff Utd 28 -16 30 17 Wigan 28 -15 29 18 Charlton 28 -23 23 19 West Ham 28 -28 20 20 Watford 28 -25 19
Simi Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 I think at the top it's all over. United wont drop many more points. They still have to play each other though. Also Chelsea coming of the back of this cup win could go on a run. If they are without Terry though, they have no chance. In my opinion Charlton are the only side with half a chance of staying up. West Ham have done nothing under Curbs execpt beating Man U in his first game. Watford have been awful all season and only woke up lately.
lildave3 Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Who do Man U have left to play? Could be an interesting finish to the season at the top imo. But at the bottom it's over. Upton Park next year

Brainy Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 No. As you can see it takes only two games for Charlton to climb out of the relegation zone, maybe 3 due to the goal difference. Of course that doesn't go to say Charlton can win two more games due to the consistent poor form this season. Wigan seem to be finding their feet and dragging the likes of Sheff Utd and Man City into the drop fight. As for the top, I can't see past Man Utd. By far the best team this season. Score goals for fun, play well, great players and consistent form. Even if they aren't at their best, they can still grab the three points as shown yesterday. The title race will go down to the last 2-3 weeks of the season, and will be won by Man Utd. Chelsea will take 2nd place whilst Liverpool take 3rd. Arsenal 4th, Bolton, Blackburn, Tottenham and Everton all coming next. 16th Man City, 17th Charlton, 18th Sheff Utd, 19th Watford and 20th West Ham.
Simi Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Man Utd have Liverpool next week so if they loose Chelsea could cut the gap to 3 points with there game in hand When you say that it sounds as though it could change instantly. I do think that if Chelsea lose Terry than they can forget winning the prem. As was seen when he was out before there defending is at times comical without his leadership.
lildave3 Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Man Utd have Liverpool next week so if they loose Chelsea could cut the gap to 3 points with there game in hand They still have to play each other aswell don't they? Not over yet...
Wezleylowski Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 I think that man u have got the title in the bag now and good luck to em rather them than chelsea , moroniho comes over to english football thinking hes gonna win everything with his superior managerial skills .big eaded bastad . come on man u
Brainy Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 Utd do have a tricky run in, including Chelsea and L'pool.. and Everton away which everybody seems to be worried about
lcfc_jme Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 The bottom 3 are as good as down. The top 2 are running away with it but I can't see Chelsea catching United, especially if Terry gets injured again. Attentions turn to the race for European places!
Joe. Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 The bottom three look as good as doomed but it's not over yet. As for the title race, Chelsea are still more than capable of getting back. you only have to look at what Man Utd did to Newcastle years ago to know it's not over til it's over.
lookwhaticando Posted 25 February 2007 Posted 25 February 2007 I hope Wigan stay up. And Sheffield Utd.
Geo V Posted 26 February 2007 Posted 26 February 2007 Man Utd were so lucky against Fulham that you would have to say that the luck is with them for the title. Fulham could have had 4 against them on another day and even Fergie admitted they were lucky not to lose never mind win. Man Utd to win and West Ham, Watford to definately go down now ( at Hammers now 9 points away from safety!) and I hope Charlton stay up at someone elses expense but that will be difficult.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 February 2007 Posted 26 February 2007 If Man U beat Liverpool on Saturday I think it will be a very big ask for Chelsea to catch them. Chelsea have a tricky game at Fratton park on Saturday, and have Spurs away to come on March 11th, obvioulsy until the two meet on April 16th it will be hard to say either way if Cheslea can keep it to six points or less. Charlton could easily survive, their next four games are against Watford Newcastle Wigan and Man City. After two hardish games against Reading (although I see them trailing off towards the end of the season) and Everton they then have Sheff United at the Valley. West Ham are a pathetic excuse for a football team at the moment, Their run in is difficult, they still have Arsenal Spurs and Chelsea to play, and the real killer for them is the last game of the season Away at Man U. Their 9 points adrift they have't got a prayer. Watford have been dead burried for months.

Charlton (next 5 games): Watford win, Newcastle lose, Wigan lose, Man City draw, Reading lose Watford: Charlton lose, Tottenham lose, Chelsea lose, Middlesborough draw, Portsmouth draw West Ham: Tottenham lose, Blackburn draw, Middlesborough draw, Arsenal lose, Chelsea lose I'd say that Watford and West Ham are dead and buried, have been for a while and I can't see it getting any better for them. If these predictions turn out to be true then their last 5 games will probably be pretty pointless. As for Charlton, I really do not see them catching Wigan, especially if they cannot take 9 points from their next 5 games (something I don't see them doing). I said in another thread that I feel the bottom 3 are as good as down, and I stick by it!

You've under estimated Charlton a tad there, they've just beaten their closest relgation rivals 4-0 and gave Man U and Chelsea a game before that, Darren Bents back and Pardew seems to of had a postive affect on the team, I certainly wouldn't predict a Wigan away win at the Valley.

I agree. Charlton are hitting some form and its not only Darren Bent that is fit but others on the brink of joining the first team squad again like Luke Young, Fat Boy Read and new signing Boughera. Also, I reckon they`ll give Newcastle a beating as its only a couple of days after their UEFA Cup clash on the Thursday. I think Charlton are the only realistic side from the bottom 3 to have any chance of avoiding relegation and maybe Man City may get sucked into it.

Hmm you're probably right there my friend, but it's only because I'd like to see Wigan stay up - meaning I wouldn't like to see Charlton overtake them and so want them to be relegated. Bias is a bad thing! I agree with what you say about Pardew though - he's a quality manager and the West Ham fans certainly weren't happy to lose him. The way he's pulled a Charlton side that was in disarray together and united them/made them play as a team for each other is better than what the other two muppets achieved with 'em this season. Though I just can't see him pulling off the great escape.
