Cant see us winning, and we shouldnt pay anyone extra its not deserved.

The only thing that`ll make me smile is the fact if and when we lose derby havent got autmatic promotion anymore then they will mess up in playoffs :)

However our safety is doomed i fear

Desperate times call for desperate measures - who cares if Milan loses a few thousand from his millions? In the end he willl lose more money if we go down than

I was taking the pi$$ mate! I know they arent on the 30,000 wages that some were on when we were a Premiership club but the difference in there wage packets may be huge if we get relegated. Surely they`ll be some kind of wage review if relegated? £5k for these guys is nothing, they`ll get that from opening 2 or 3 supermarkets.

God I wish you were my manager.

I'd sit on my fat forking arse all day long eating crisps, drinking coffee and masturbating like a wild, viagra-addled monkey from Columbia and not doing my job... and because there's a deadline looming, you offer me another wedge of unearned money to actually do something remotely like my job requires.

And how do you know that? Do you speak to milan a lot then?

Kisnorbo was reportedly offered a contract in the region of a million Aussie dollars a year - or about 8k quid a week.

I imagine Douglas is on a wedge himself. After all, he came to us from Celtic - they're hardly likely to have been paying him less than 5k a week (he took a pay cut to join us, remember).

Mate some D1 players are on around £5,000 a week never mind Championship players! Im sure we have quite a few players earning in excess of £5k, some who dont even play (I think Rab Douglas is on around that).

Let's just look at some fuzzy numbers...

The club's turnover in 03/04 was 22.5m approximately. Take away 7m in parachute payments. That's 15.5m quid turnover today, as an estimate/assumption.

Let's assume the wages to turnover ratio is approximately 50% (low compared to the numbers over the past 10 years on average).

That means wages amount to 7.75m quid. Divide by 30 players, that's 258,000 quid a year per player.

Divide by 52 weeks gives approximately 5k a week on average, per player.

50% wage to turnover is pessimistic, I reckon - as we have one of the highest wage bills in the league still. The 30 players goes some way to including the academy's wage bill too. Even if the wage bill was only 5m quid, over 30 players the average wage is nearly 4k/week. Assuming 25% wage-to-income, and I still get 2.5k a week on average!

I'll try to find some real numbers... if anyone has the numbers handy...

Still think some of the players aren't on 5k a year?

They should refund all ticket monies to the fans who turn up and let everyone else in for free for the Brum and Wolves games, much more sensible than giving the players more.

We are the 12th Man.

April 2005

Premiership footballers earn an average of £676,000 per year, according to a survey by The Independent and the Professional Footballers' Association. That figure, which equates to £13,000 per week, typically rises by between 60% and 100% when performance-related bonuses are taken into account.

Strikers have the highest average annual salary, with £806,000, while midfielders earn about £754,000.

Defenders earn £653,000 on average and Premiership goalkeepers make £533,000.

The basic pay represents an average rise of around 65% from the average figure in 2000.

Players' bonuses vary enormously - depending on the terms of their deal - but could easily double a footballer's salary.

Bonuses may include appearance money of about £5,000 per game - even if the player only comes on as a last-minute substitute.

o.gif PREMIERSHIP WAGES BY AGE 17-18: £24,500 19-20: £95,000 21-22: £390,000 23-24: £582,500 25-26: £653,000 27-28: £899,500 29-30: £806,000 31-32: £586,000 33+: 660,500 Average: £676,000* (* Average figure takes into account players aged over 20) Signing-on fees are often a six-figure sum, with payments usually spread over the term of a player's contract - for example, a £250,000 signing-on fee, spread over three years, would equate to an extra £1,603 per week.

Players can also look forward to a share of a win bonus following each victory and an end-of-season performance bonus - often related to whether a team stays up or qualifies for Europe.

Further bonuses may follow if a club reaches a cup final and there may also be goal bonuses.

Wages are also staggered according to age, with the highest earners tending to be those aged between 27 and 30.

Salaries drop considerably in lower divisions, although they are still substantial.

Championship players earn an average salary of £195,750, League One players £67,850 and League Two £49,600.

About 400 players across the four professional divisions responded to the survey.

Despite the high salary figures, 64% of Premiership footballers who responded said they were in favour of a salary cap, which would mean that no more than 75% of a club's income should be spent on its wage bill.

Of the others, 35% said they would not support a cap and 1% did not know.

Thanks davieG... I should have remembered the BBC Article, I read it many times before.

That figure there says it all really. I estimated wages of almost 260,000 on average at the club - and since we're reputed to have one of the highest wage bills, I imagine I'm not all that far off. £195,750 a year is almost 3,800 quid a week. Again, this somewhat backs up my fuzzy numbers earlier - the average in the Championship on the whole is almost 4k a week - and it was doubted that some of ours are earning anywhere near 5k a week.

If the average in this league is 4k, you can bet your last Rolo that we've got at least a couple of players earning well in excess of 5k a week - Kisnorbo and Douglas for a start, one would imagine.

I (we) rest our case.

And that was 2005, I can't imagine they've gone anywhere but up since , although in reality for LCFC players they will have come down from a much, much higher level after the Levein clear out

I imagine the division average wages rose quite a bit since 2005 on average - after all, Birmingham who had been somewhat established in the Premiership got relegated with the wage bill that entails. That has surely had an impact. I imagine our wage bill has probably been slimmed a bit more since then too, as you say - from a much higher level indeed.

Williams was probably on good money, since he was signed during the Adams era (parachute payments, the hope of an instant return to the top...) and he's since left. Still, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we were still part of the group of clubs whose wages prop the division average up. I can't really believe that our wages would be below the average. We cut a lot off the wage bill, but I don't think we cut it that far.
