Mort Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 As a result of the local elections everyone seems to be getting unsolicited crap (meaning leaflets in this case) through their letterboxes at the moment, be it from Labour, the Tories, LibDems or assorted “othersâ€Â... as Leicester city council and most of the other councils in the country were up this year, was wondering if any one had any thoughts?
lookwhaticando Posted 19 April 2007 Posted 19 April 2007 Lots of thought flowing tonight, I see. I envisage a bad night for Labour, a good night for the UKIP and Greens - by their standards, anyhoo. And there endeth my predictions. It's a big council election in Leicester, as all the seats are up for grabs - not just a third of them as in many other districts and unitary authorities. I love a good election. Massive.
Phube Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 I always vote for Discombobulated Disco Bob Dagenham Dave Lemond's favourite party: Tories!!!

Mort Posted 20 April 2007 Author Posted 20 April 2007 Found out I'm still registered in Castle Ward, which I'm told the Greens nearly won a seat in last time around... so with my three votes I'll probably opt for Green - Tory - Tory ...just for consistency, and even though I doubt the Tories stand a chance round Clarendon Park

Any where that's nice will have the Tories in... It's the rules, especially in general elections!! Harborough, Blaby, Charnwood - Tory Leicester South (Saff, Monsell etc.) - Labour Leicester West (New Parks, Braunstone) - Labour Leicester East (Evington, Highfields) - Labour Make of it what you will!!

Fair point and with all the posh apartments in the city centre which Castle covers you'd have thought, if anything, there would be more tories about than there were at the last elections in the city... add to that the Tories are doing better than four years ago... well, still want to get a Green elected, if only for shits and gigles

Mort Posted 24 April 2007 Author Posted 24 April 2007 Was walking around Clarendon Park today (the terraces and what not, between Welford Rd and Queens Rd) and there's only one kind of poster "Green", whats more there's plenty of them as well must have counted seven or eight. Meanwhile the other day i was driving down Evington Road and there seems a even divide between Labour and LibDem posters... and one Tory sign

Mort Posted 24 April 2007 Author Posted 24 April 2007 the reason is is that if someone puts up a poster for the 'nasty party', someone from the .....ahem 'nice party' bricks their window. Nah... we're on the up! ,still dont see much change in my fair city Then again i doubt the Tories will be throwing much money into Leicester, their the third group on teh council and most of their seats are pretty safe, they'll probably spend most of their time trying to evict the LibDem from Knighton... surley no one would put brick through your window in Knighton!?
Ultra Posted 1 May 2007 Posted 1 May 2007 The Tories have ran the city council for most of the past four years, despite being the THIRD largest party. They may take Knighton off the LibDems, but are in danger of losing Evington to Labour. The Greens may win all three of the Castle seats this time (thanks to all the students and ex-hippies who live there), and possibly Fosse as well. The LibDems are in meltdown, possibly due to the massive split they had last year. So maybe Labour could be on course to regain overall control of the council, in spite of the dire national trend! PS Watch out for a strong BNP showing in New Parks. They're not gonna win though!
Rincewind Posted 1 May 2007 Posted 1 May 2007 My areas improved actually. (Castle Ward) Theres been a bit of a clean up. Don't see any pro's about and they've clamped down on street drinking. Thought with the Night shelter on Conduit Street it might attract drunks but as far as I'm aware it's not been too bad. I think Castle is represented by Labour. At least one of the leaflets I glanced at says what they have done. I vote by post now. I could never be bothered to go to the voting place before. Not posted it yet. Just looking at it now. Only one I've heard of is Sue Waddington. I know nothing about the rest. Two of the Green Party live at the same address. Different names. Might be a good thing. When they get angry letters one of them must read them. Most of them don't live in the Highfeilds area. So when I've found a pin I'll make my selection.
Ultra Posted 1 May 2007 Posted 1 May 2007 The "working girls" are still very much in Castle Ward, and can be seen around the Belmont House Hotel in De Montfort Street on most evenings. Conduit Street has had issues with street drinkers, though I don't know what the situation is like there now. At the moment there are 2 Labour councillors - Sue Waddington and Patrick Kitterick (who does live in Highfields) for Labour and Debbie Almey (who allegedly lives in Earl Shilton!) for the Lib Dems. I think one of the Green candidates (Matt Follett) also lives in Highfields.
Rincewind Posted 2 May 2007 Posted 2 May 2007 I'm on the other side of London Road. The girls used to do the streets near me. Lincoln and Prebend mainly. Even had one follow me home and I had literally slam the door against her face to stop her entering my house.

Rincewind Posted 2 May 2007 Posted 2 May 2007 I wouldn't be surprised if shes banged up in one of HM estabishments. Saw her a few times and she seemed high on booze or other substances. Always asked for a light and got funny when I said no and carried on walking. Didn't like being ignored. She was a bit too common for me anyway and thats some feat to manage that.
