Webbo Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 Does any one know if you can plug a bass guitar into a normal guitar amp. I'm going to buy my daughter a bass for her birthday but they cost a fortune with the amp. Please only answer if you know, I don't want to drop a b0ll0ck.
stez Posted 24 May 2007 Posted 24 May 2007 Speaker CabinetsThe main attribute of a bass speaker cabinet is that it needs to move a lot of air. This means that the speaker diameter needs to be very large, and it needs to move in and out a long way. One problem when you do this with a standard guitar speaker is that it builds up enough momentum that it actually wants to jump out of itself. This is one of the reasons behind why a bass cabinet must be sealed or ported. At the lowest frequencies, the speaker needs to have the air inside the box push back a little to keep it under control. The size and length of the port tube helps the speaker stay under control at even lower frequencies. This is why you do not want to play your bass loudly through a guitar amp. Most guitar cabinets are open in the back - part of their tone comes from allowing the speaker to move freely. according to this you can, but not to loudly from here it seems to get a decent bass sound you need a bass amp. if deathside is around ask him, i believe he played bass in a band of some note

The People's Hero Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 You can do at low-ish volumes, but don't expect great results.
Unit Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 It works fine using my Bass in my brothers Guitar amp, it's just not as Bassy and low pitched.
Webbo Posted 25 May 2007 Author Posted 25 May 2007 Thanks for all your efforts, I found a starter kit (amp included) on Ebay last night. A bit more than I wanted to pay, but not too bad.
