lookwhaticando Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one. There is a tradition in many online discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress. This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's Law. FoxesTalk doesn't have a Nazi problem - for the most part - but we often suffer discussions that veer off towards similarly tenuous discussions/comparisons. So, I propose a FoxesTalk Law: As a FoxesTalk discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving (or a discussion about) Elvis Hammond (for example, only) approaches one. Thus, the first person to mention Elvis Hammond (for example) is considered to have lost whatever debate they were participating in. Sound.
Guest Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 What if it was a quiz, where the answer to one of the tough questions posed was indeed, Elvis Hammond?
Lillehamring Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 What if it was a quiz, where the answer to one of the tough questions posed was indeed, Elvis Hammond? exactly... next thread, please!
Ultra Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 What if it was a quiz, where the answer to one of the tough questions posed was indeed, Elvis Hammond? Pedant. Can't imagine Elvis being an answer to anything (except, in the VERY short-term, a league 2 club's scoring problems.. )
The People's Hero Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 He's not the answer he's the question. For example... Elvis Hammond, why? Elvis Hammond - Professional Footballer. How? Etc.
lcfc_jme Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 Pedant. Can't imagine Elvis being an answer to anything (except, in the VERY short-term, a league 2 club's scoring problems.. ) Elvis is the answer to the question "Who is the biggest Gansta Rap Star ever to play up front for Leicester City Football Club?".
potter3 Posted 4 June 2007 Posted 4 June 2007 Elvis is the answer to the question "Who is the biggest Gansta Rap Star ever to play up front for Leicester City Football Club?". Or "50 Cent plays for Leicester under what name?"
lookwhaticando Posted 5 June 2007 Author Posted 5 June 2007 Ha. You all lose. And in fact I also lose, as I also mentioned him. Shameful behaviour. Obviously, in the event of a quiz (and the unlikely event that Hammond is the answer) then such a law would be ignored. After all, a quiz isn't really a debate or discussion as such - unlike recent topics about the signing of new players, for example - which have turned into discussions about Elvis from a much different starting point.
Dames Posted 5 June 2007 Posted 5 June 2007 Fryatt doesnt justify anything he did nothing last season whilst Hammond made many many contributuions and was the key to us staying in the league
