James. Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Anyone going to this? Just found out a friend of mine and her band are playing there. They're called Toy Heroes - here's the MySpace link - Toy Heroes Check them out if you go and if anyone fancies giving some feedback on the tunes on the website I'd be intrigued to know what an unbiased neutral thinks of them. Although the music isn't to my personal taste I can appreciate genuine musical ability - Painful Painless is a great tune.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 I usually go but not this year. I will forever be indebted to this festival though for introducing me to Rodrigo y Gabriela and Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band (you heard of them mate? You'd love them).
General Smuts Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Yeah i went last year and loved it, Larrikin Love, Jamie T and Little Man Tate were immense on the little stage with Belle And Sebastian's closing set being top drawer as well as finding some great bands id barely heard of like the New Cassettes first thing on a sunday afternoon. Great weekend. This year im not going because the line up seems really quite poor in my opinion. The only bands id like to see are Tiny Dancers, Rumble Strips, The Hold Steady and Kate Nash but i would rather go and see them seperately for much less than the £80 ticket price Also the Magic Numbers played at my university leavers ball and were a bit pants to be honest, really bland and uninspiring. And after last years triumph i was all revved up waiting for the first list of the line up to be announced and was really dissapointed with this years lot. Here's hoping next year brings something special.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Saw the Rumble Strips recently and they were shiitake.
General Smuts Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Saw the Rumble Strips recently and they were shiitake. They were mushrooms?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 They were mushrooms? Yep. Who'da thunk it? Seriously though, they were garbage. Pull Tiger Tail pissed all over them (it was messy).
General Smuts Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 Well in fairness Pull Tiger Tail are the better band and i have always wondered how the rumble strips would pull of the horns live. Apparently not very well. Still would've liked to have been at that gig.
Cat Burger Posted 11 July 2007 Posted 11 July 2007 I saw Rumble Strips at Dot to Dot 06 and enjoyed them, they played well I thought even though I don't like them generally.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 8 August 2007 Posted 8 August 2007 It's this Friday kids. Hope you've all bought your smarties and shower proof hoodies. Plus, you'll need a pass out to get to the Blackpool game. Spoon will be the highlight of the show. Mark my words.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 August 2007 Posted 12 August 2007 Just back from Summer Sundae. Bit disappointing to be honest. Top acts: 1. Echo and the Bunnymen 2. Tiny Dancers 3. Richmond Fontaine 4. Broken Family Band And oh yeah, Spoon were crap.

Unit Posted 13 August 2007 Posted 13 August 2007 Duke Special were the best band of the weekend by far, I'd never heard of them and stumbled into the indoor arena to sober up a bit and was nicely suprised, class. The atmosphere is great and it really makes you want to go back when you get home, agh! Anybody know what all the rape stuff was on viccy park? I saw the scientific support and that but haven't heard anything else since, madness.

I saw the scientific support and that but haven't heard anything else since, madness. That sounds ominous. I hope nobody from the event was involved. The Summer Sundae was almost cancelled this year because a few killjoys complained to the council about the noise drifting over Clarendon Park. I didn't catch Duke Special but they'd have had to go a long way to top the Pigeon Detectives, who were ace. Also saw Echo and the Bunnymen but thought they were a little lacklustre, certainly not as good as in their 80s heyday. Overall the event was a real credit to the organisers, the acts and the city as a whole. There was plenty of good food and ale ( ) and the atmosphere was superb. Definitely going again next year!

Yeah pigeon detectives were good too, bit cocky though! As for the rape stuff, it was a girl at the campsite who'd supposedly been raped (millions of rumours floating around). Most people ignored it all until the scientific support arrived and took all the clothes and stuff from one tent in their special airtight bags with rubber gloves on and all that, was a bit scary to be honest.
