Thracian Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 It's all well and good talking about them being on a fairly even keel going forward but the most important differnece between them is.Mattock can get back and defend fairly well. Sheehan can't defend for shit. That's not how I see it. Both have their frailties defensively from what I've seen, the one no less than the other. Indeed, it might be argued there's always a risk behind attacking full-backs but the point is the ball gets locked in the attacking half for much longer and WE will score more goals, perhaps even enough goals, to get promoted. Without those goals we've no chance.
Babylon Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Are we STILL talking about Alan Sheehan?? I'll be glad when he leaves.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Are we STILL talking about Alan Sheehan??I'll be glad when he leaves. Agreed. Ditto Louis Dodds, Levi Porter, Andy King, Conrad Logan and Max Gradel.
oO RUSTYNAIL Oo Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 OK Fez im guessing that you want Levi Porter Conrad Logan etc to leave, but i really think that Levi at the moment is on eof our best Left wingers, thats my opinion as i have not seen much of Sheehan, but when i watched some matches Mattock played on the right, im condussed, could some please clear this up for me
sdb Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 correct me if i'm wrong, but from the few times i've seen Sheehan he is 100% left footed and will go to great lengths to make sure he doesn;t have to use his right. yay or nay? Mattock seems a much, much more complete player already to me

Mattock seems a much, much more complete player already to me He is left-footed but someone remarked that he seemed well enough able to use his right foot at Hinckley when needed. I'm not going to knock Mattock's abilities. You don't get top four Premiership sides noticing a guy for nothing. But "complete player?" Let's see how he copes his first full season in the senior squad to begin with. As I've said, he and Sheehan are different. Comparing them is probably pointless. But let's not pressure Mattock by imagining he's some sort of footballing genius. He's not. He's got his faults as you'd expect at 17 and, like every young player, including Sheehan, he'll need a bit of patience and support at times. But I doubt whether either will be allowed to stop learning under Martin Allen. However well they play Allen will expect to see both lads striving to be better and that will doubtless include Sheehan's right foot! .
lookwhaticando Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Sheehan will get a chance at a run of games when Mattock heads Stateside for a while early on in the season. Assuming we don't sign any other LBs before then, or decide to deploy a RB/CB at LB instead.
