Bojimha Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Hi, I started a new job in June and have been emergency taxed on my first month pay as I didnt give them my p45, midway through this month I received my P45 from the last place (i know long story, got sent to the wrong address etc) and by the time i gave it to my employers it was past the payroll cut off point so for this month aswell I will be emergency taxed again. My question is, will my two months emergency tax excess be re-imbursed to me in my september pay packet or will I have to wait until the end of the financial year? Thanks for the help in advance!

I'd say you'll get it back this month but I've known them to wait until the end of the tax year to give it back. Unless you're a big earner it'll be peanuts anyway, you'll hardly notice it!
Cobbo Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 You'll have to contact the inland revenue yourself to get it back I think as your employers won't give it back..

Lord Nibblington Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 The last two jobs I've had, I've been emergency taxed for a few months, before getting off my arse and sorting out my p45. Both times, I got the money I was owed as a lump sum in my next pay packet.
Blue Bob Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 If you give your emplyers your P45 then they can sort out your tax from your next wages. The issue is they do not have your tax code. Your employers will then equal out any extra tax you have been paid. You shouldnt have to wait until the end of the tax year unless your employers dont have a clue!!!
stripeyfox Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Don't expect it quickly! You'll be waiting an age for it and there is not much you can do to chase them. I remember when I finally got mine, it came on the same day as my Poll Tax bill which was roughly the same amount - maybe someone at the IR has a sense of humour!

I've met some of them - not a chance!!
Bojimha Posted 28 August 2007 Author Posted 28 August 2007 thanks for the advice guys, ill have to wait and see what happens and if there are no additions ill make a note to chase it up in April. I think it will be a considerable amount as my last months deductions where about £400 more than what I had estimated!

That definitely speeds things up but if your workplace has a good HR team they can help speed it up and you may be able to reclaim it with your next pay cheque.
