Alexikokopops Posted 25 February 2005 Posted 25 February 2005 I just had this conversation with my friend on MSN: My Mate: You're not going to believe what's just been said on sky sports news Me: What???? My Mate: Someone just told me that this news article's coming up on there now, it'll be on the net in the morning... My Mate: fifa are changing the offside rule to avoid more arguments, they're doing this by only making it possible to be offside if a player is in the penalty area when the ball is passed... Anyone else watching Sky Sports News??? Doesn't sound like it could be true, but you never know what FIFA will come up with next.

Ooh unless of course The Sun reports that it is going to happen (via the word of Mystic Meg)

Collymore Posted 25 February 2005 Posted 25 February 2005 Thats stupid cause the striker could just stand on the edge of the area all game, a defender would have to come back to mark him playing everyone else onside. Never gonna work.

Tomassi Posted 25 February 2005 Posted 25 February 2005 it will just mean defenders will have to play deeper so the through-ball will be exterminated and perhaps less goals in matches how very gay
emmalcfc Posted 25 February 2005 Posted 25 February 2005 I read this in the mirror ages ago, but I didn't think it was true. It also said something about you'll get a yellow card if you block a player when he's taking a throw-in. Also, when you score, if a player on the scorers team picks the ball out of the back of the net, then you get a yellow. Then when a player is celebrating a goal, he'll only get a yellow if he removes his shirt completely. So they can still put it over their head. I think it said if you foul someone in the box, you'll only get a yellow, but the other team will still get a penalty. As I said, I read this ages ago, so don't quote me on any of it
Scow Posted 26 February 2005 Posted 26 February 2005 They couldn't just bring this rule straight in ! 71146[/snapback] With Sepp Blatter in charge, anything is possible.

Can't see this one coming to fruition! Something needs to be said about goal-line technology yet though (sorry to bring this issue back up)
