BS8 Red Posted 25 February 2005 Posted 25 February 2005 Hi y'all, Bristol City fan here, there's a rumour down are way that you have been looking at Danny Coles recently and are thinking about buying him. Has anyone up your end heard anything about this and if so do you know what sort of fee you'd be looking at? I know you were interested in him (& Matt Hill) back in the Summer but are you really likely to still want him now what with changing your manager and all that? I do suppose the scouts remain the same though and they may have recommended him again? We rejected a £500k bid from Cardiff a year or so ago but Danny has now asked to be allowed to join a CCC club so I assume we may be more flexible on the price this time. Anyway, forgive me for the intrusion and any info you do have would be greatly appreciated.

He's more comfortable playing alongside a big defender although he's no shorty at 6 foot. He's main strengths are his pace and tackling and up until about a year ago he was able to pick a good long pass too but that seems to have gone awry of late. Having a load of shite coaches at our club probably doesn't help much You were definitely interested in the Summer but with the change of manager I was suprised to hear it at our end so thought I'd check to see if any of you had heard. Does he play in any of those positions? 71389[/snapback] No as I've stated above he's primarily a CB (although plays RB from time to time) but has a lot of potential if you have any decent coaches. I think he's currently suffering from being a big fish in a small pond at BCFC and a move to a club the size of yours could prove beneficial for all parties. You'd have a good'un if you did sign him. DC was always thought of a lot more highly than Matty "toblerone" Hill, but having recently signed him for a snip at £100k, the PNE fans are raving about him so there's no doubt in my mind that he's good enough for the step up, just whether the interest is there in the first place. Matty H needs to prove himself to CL & Stearman develop physically to be in contention for the centre back role, altho CL said he was certain that Stearman will end up as centre back in the long term.

I'd heard that you've tried to sign him on loan but as we need the cash to replace him you were contemplating coming back in with a bid in the near future, not waiting till Summer. His greatest feat so far I guess is having Earnshaw well and truly in his pocket 4 times in one season about 2 years ago. Earnshaw's now playing in the Premiership so I guess that's what has convinced DC that he's good enough to play higher than League One The way I see it though, once you have an unhappy player it's best for both parties if he moves on fairly quickly so although I rate him, I'd be pleased if the rumours were true.

Dublin appears to be talking about carrying on playing and Levein praises him as a professional, so I think we will see him for one more season. Dublin, Dabizas, Heath, Steamran and Kinsboro. That is 5 players into 2 positions, not particuarly strong set of 5 players but 5 players non the less.

You'd have thought that a manager with Prem experience (albeit of taking teams down ) would have got us up in 4 years! This season is looking more and more like a non-promotion one too with the teams the teams around us all having games in hand, us lying in 8th anyway and not exactly in great form. However, if we were to go on a run and finish 6th, I'd like to think we'd deserve to win the pray-offs having failed to win them in each of our last 2 seasons having finished 3rd both times!!!
