Ash Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 I know i might be jumping to early conclusions but in the 2 games i've saw Stearman at right back , he has always been reliable and comfortable . He is very compossed with the ball at his feet and also seems to link up with other players well , He may only be 17 years old and have small experience in professional football, but he is showing true talent and professionalism ! Why don't CL put Maybury at left back & play Stearman as our first team right back ?
Scarby Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 2 card 2 yellow cards apart from that i think we have a talent here!! lets hope he gets a few more games under his belt. At least a million pound player in the future
Steven Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 Yes he needs to curb the yellows, he also gets them too often at Reserves level. That aside looks like a player going the right way.
Anish Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 Yep I'd agree with Ash - play Maybury at left-back and stick Stearman at right back. Stewart seems to be underperforming in the last couple of games and it would show him that he's not guaranteed a starting place. Stearman deserves his chance and has played well whenever he's wore the shirt.

Maybe it is an idea that is worth thinking about and that CL might try.
Who ate all the pies? Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 I want Stearman as centre back not right back. It's his best position and the place we need him most!

He is 17 so give him a couple of years to fill out and strengthen and then he will be up to it.
Who ate all the pies? Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 more reliable than Dabizas! Stearman is no full back!
Ash Posted 27 February 2005 Author Posted 27 February 2005 more reliable than Dabizas! Stearman is no full back! 72125 Dabizas has been playing really well the last few games
Jonbluefox9 Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 He still needs to build himself up before he can play centre back. I think Levein is using him wisely. He's giving Stearman a taster and I suppose the fans a taster too but he's not putting a lot of pressure on him. Levein knows how to deal with youngsters as he brought some good ones through at Hearts and Rob Kelly has a lot of experience with academies too. I think they're going about it the right way and Rich and the club will benefit from this in the future.
chambo_9 Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 Stearman left back.......lets just say you would be surprised at how well he would do there
Ash Posted 27 February 2005 Author Posted 27 February 2005 Stearman left back.......lets just say you would be surprised at how well he would do there 72146 He isn't left footed though, Surely he'd be better on the right ?
chambo_9 Posted 27 February 2005 Posted 27 February 2005 nope, he spent a season or so for the under 17's playing left back wen between the age of 13-15 not quite sure and everytime i watched him there he was excellant so things could of only have got better on his left foot so why not try him there.

Ric Flair Posted 28 February 2005 Posted 28 February 2005 Forget his age, every time I have seen Stearman play he's been the best player on the park. First team and reserve games included, he goes about his business effectively and looks so composed. He has that natural touch to his game, where he doesn't make rash decisions when he's on the ball. His disciplinary record needs curving, but after watching some premiership highlights over the weekend there needs to be some wholesale changes in the game regarding player's conduct on the pitch. Disgusting at times, but Stearman doesn't look a typical dirty player. In-experience perhaps plays apart with his bookings, don't know what Tiatto's or Dabizas's excuse is. I think he'd be better in a 3 man defence, with wing-backs. I think we should work on this formation. I know it would mean sacrafising 2 players out of Maybury, Gillespie, Tiatto and Stewart but it would allow us to play Hughes, Williams and Gudjonsson in the centre of midfield and Stearman can ply his trade with the likes of Dublin and Dabizas (how mouth watering is that) he'll teach them two duffers a thing or two. Stearman is our future, his age makes no odds. He needs to be nurtured but at the same time he needs to get first team football to aid his progression. You can't keep a good man down, irrespective of his age. 2 starts this season, man of the match in both in my opinion. He also had a good half hour at Ipswich according to reports. I'll give it 6 months before the vultures are out.
SarbannesFoxley Posted 28 February 2005 Posted 28 February 2005 The wild hack in the first minute at Reading was hilarious!
Scow Posted 28 February 2005 Posted 28 February 2005 The wild hack in the first minute at Reading was hilarious! 72377 And it was on Brooker too. But to be fair, he did settle down very quickly after that. I think he was just eager.

Jonbluefox9 Posted 28 February 2005 Posted 28 February 2005 When Rudkin went on Century, he said that they try and make the young lads play lots of positions so they can play different systems better. Apparently they've put Rich Stearman up front in some games for short spells so he could appreciate that position.
