davieG Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 I'm not being blinded by optimism at all. Really though, these games should prove a lot easier than our previous fixtures. We're going into a break with a good win under our belts, and when we return, we won't have any opposition that should prove too taxing until we meet Chelsea.I agree though, the football has been mostly mediocre (even if we HAVE got the best defensive record in our league) but we've only lost 2 in all competitions, so on some levels we must be doing something right. With the win on Saturday, this could be the perfect time to get a good run going. Mind you, if we pick up less than 3pts against S****horpe, that could all fall apart... I'll just stop talking now... Nowt wrong with being optimistic, how many times has a post similar to that be put out in the last 3 years and proved to be one of many false dawns. Should win, could win, will win - Didn't Win. But my fingers are all crossed.
Tabou Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 I think you may have missed the point.I don't think anyones saying play for a draw, you'll very rarely see any fan say play for a draw, we're commenting on how likely it is that we will win the next three games, and as I said I'd be delighted with 7 points. Oh I agree with that mate, I dont think they will be playing for a draw, but at this time, I think we really want to be winning everygame, especially after our Villa experience. That old saying about "On a good day.." and all that rings true. A bit of confidence does wonders, especially for City. My point was about "Settling" for a draw. Drawing against teams like Sheffield Utd (especially when they are in poor form) should be seen as 2 points lost rather than one gained, if we are to get a respectable league position. Also, i agree with Thrac, Megson really needs to build on what we have, namely a solid defence at present, and a striker in Fryatt who is just starting to find some form and confidence. Now its raining again
Linekaaaah Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 Well, optimism seems to be severely lacking here, obviously, so a little (even misguided) might be a good thing eh As I said though, I really am confident atm, but I think it'll hinge on the S****horpe result. If we beat them, we should be picking up 6pts from the next 2.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 Two defeats in all competitions perhaps, but it's also only two league wins all season. You can try and prove anything with statistics like that. My gut instinct based on the previous three years or so of garbage is that Barnsley are playing well and we're not. Sheffield United have a goalscorer and we don't. S****horpe is a difficult place to go to and the Walkers isn't. That might be seen as pessimistic but I HATE reading stuff like "we should beat Barnsley". It's like people haven't actually been fans for the past three years or didn't go to Charlton or witness the performances this season at home against QPR and Stoke.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 We're not playing though are we Of course the team are going to go for 9 points, every football team normally trys to win every game. However what we think has little bearing on how the team perform, and 9 points from those three games, sorry I don't see it. True I personally think we will get 5 points, but i'm always going to hope and think we will get 9 points. I think we will be one of those teams that it will be very tough to get 3 points against home or away for the rest of the season

Being difficult to beat doesn't get you wins though, people are disparaging the likes of S****horpe and Barnsley as if they don't exist, when we can be seen to be scoring goals then wins might come but at the moment draws are more than likely.
lookwhaticando Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 Scunny away is the 20th. It's supposed to be broadcast on Setanta Sports over here. I don't work on the 20th. Could I finally get to see a live Leicester City match on the telly for the first time in 3 years?

Ironic, Sentanta will make it possible to watch our game in Canada, yet insanely difficult to watch it over here.

Colchester (away) and Cardiff (home) games are showing live too... They only show Premiership and Conference football - along with Irish league stuff - on Setanta sadly... no other League games - not even cup matches...
Maybes Posted 9 October 2007 Posted 9 October 2007 I only see us getting 5 points. Drawing away at scunny and home to sheff utd, but beating barnsleeee
