Asha Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Thought it was Andy King? That's what they said on sky sports - they never get it wrong

filbertboy Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Well done to all the fans who made the trip for the match...a long way for a midweek game !! Glad most people rated Cort highly for his performance at Turf Moor.
Asha Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 HA!!! No it was definately Stearman!!! No. 17 an all!!!! Well 37 looks very similar at times...from a distance
Thracian Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Thought it was Andy King? King and Stearman combined so they said on the radio with Stearman making the cross.
Daz.I Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 Brilliant point in my opinion there in fine form after beating some top teams away. Apparently we didn't deserve it but you don't always get what you deserve now do you
Hullfox Posted 5 December 2007 Posted 5 December 2007 a) That the travelling fans sound relatively happy after a match which Colin Gibson and co suggested we might have lost between 8-1 and 12-1. Was it really as bad as the commentators implied?b) Although I'm pleased for him and don't for a minute think he's deserved the stick he's had, Cort played his sixth Leaqgue match for us and has still failed to score a goal. Yet he collects an eight. Don't misunderstand me. I accept he had a decent game. But can any striker rate an eight when he doesn't score? Was he really that good or were people offering a bit of support after a lot of unwarranted stick? That's a question not an implied criticism. a) For those who were there, I'm sure that I'm not far off the mark to say that we were happy in the way that we came back from a woeful first half. We are not the best footballers in the division but we didn't boo the team off at half time as would have happened atthe walkers and we responded to their increased efforts. b) Why on earth can a striker not score an eight when he didn't score? That's a preposterous implication. He held the ball up as well as anybody I've seen wear the shirt this season. He won headers, he laid off some delightful little knocks and he defended admirably at set pieces. He fully deserved an eight.

Striker's can clearly score an eight when they don't score. That's conclusive because you've given him one. They could even score an eight by my own criteria but it would be extremely unlikely if they failed to score or assist a goal. I don't understand why you'd consider my criteria "preposterous". There's always room for exceptions but I think the criteria reasonable and I try to apply it consistently. You clearly have a different criteria and why not if it suits you. I think strikers are there to score and make goals. Anything else is a bonus. But, unlike the official criteria for assists I consider any assist to be relevent to a greater or lesser degree. Which doesn't actually rule Cort out of an eight from me anyway. Because, from reading other views, I note that Cort might have played a part in the goal through his challenge on/proximity to the goalkeeper. If so it might well have been as important as any other contribution. Whatever, I'm pleased for the guy. It is perfectly clear that he was the outfield Man of the Match and that's no problem to me. He's still got ability if he can stay fit and if we can use him properly.
