keegan quits man city

I'm surprised he decided to quit now - I thought he would have taken that decision at the end of this season.

At the end of it all, Keegan just doesn't cut it at the top level. He's had plenty of money to spend at Citeh, but couldn't lift them above mid table mediocrity...

Kevin 'The quitter' Keegan! He has left every job hes ever had so no surprises hes left now. I hope for his sake he has retired because no Chairman in their right mind would take a risk on him again!

I think you are all misunderstanding the situation. Keegan announced earlier in the week that he would retire at the end of next season when his contract ran out, I presume he thought letting them know would help the club. However Man City and Keegan have now agreed that he should go now so as to allow them to get replacement in sooner rather than later.

I know he has this quitter reputation but in this case it's unfounded.

By the way I thought he did the honourable thing resigning from the England post, much like Adams at LCFC, it's a shame a few other managers don't see fit to resign when they are obviously a failure.

Pleat, Taylor to name but 2.

I read it similar to DavieG. He was going to retire at the end of the season and he thinks the best thing to do for the club would be to give them until then to find a replacement so a new manger can have a look at his squad and decide who he wants to bring in the summer. he has doen this now because they are safe from relegation and have nothing to play for.

I am a fan of Keegans. I think he gets his teams to play football and is an honourable man. When doing ghr Engl;and job he believed the press about him knowing nothign about tactics and made some superficial 'tactical' decision like playing Southgate in midfield. What people fail to realsie is that a manger like Arsene Wenger just throws his team out in the same formationa nd same style of play every game, no one moans about his tactical ability.

Unlucky Kevin :( He is one manager i've love to see manage our club, i've always admired his passion and the way he gets his team to play attractive football. Man City don't even have a good squad, just look up front, Fowler and Sibierski? Horrible.

He's done himself well actually here actually, Shaun Wright Phillips is out for 6-8 weeks, Man City are going to find it hard to find any win in that time whoevers the manager.

Agreed, his transfer transactions are questionable to say the least. :ermm:

Same here.

Top bloke, and personally i'd be sorry to see him retire from football, his teams normally play exciting football and his Newcastle side in particular were great to watch. Bit unlucky with England, but wasn't it him who gave Heskey his international debut?

d.

KK announced it at the end of last season. Since that day the board have given him no money to spend, just wages for loan signings. In the last couple of months he has been complaining in the press at the size of the squad and that he hasn't been given enough money to spend to get city to top 6 like he said he would. Hes also been making noises that there is a rift with the board and if they want to do something about it he would gladly go. His heart isn't in it anymore. He spent a hell of a lot of money on over 30 year olds who have let him down badly. Hence the board refused him any more money for short term stop gap signings. The official line is that we are going to give psycho 9 games to prove himself but many insiders at our club say that the deal has been finalised a few weeks ago and it is not stuart pearce.

Well said Davieg

I have a lot of respect for Keegan, he is a top bloke who has shown himself to be honest and honourable throughout his career. He isn't afraid to tell it like it is and isn't afraid to get in trouble with the FA. He has always played football in the right way (although perhaps his defensive tactics were always suspect) and it's not like he's failed anywhere else but England.

I think people are forgetting the promotions that he won with Newcastle, Fulham and Man City. He came desperately close to the Prem title with Newcastle. The story goes that they failed because the players lost their bottle as they saw K's hair going greyer every day as Man U whittled away their lead.

KK was charismatic and enthusiastic. He is a great troubleshooter. But when trouble's shot he doesn't know what to do. He's a spendthrift too. Tactically naive? Maybe, but most British managers are.

I was slightly pleased therefore when I saw a video of Barcelona self destructing in 20 minutes against Shitsea. They lost three goals by playing a high line needlessly and allowing Shitsea to sucker punch em each time. A most elementary mistake - they should have sat deep.

Funnily enough, I have not seen, heard or read any coach (inc. Terry Venables) or commentator make this basic observation.

I'm in the wrong business...

Despite what most pundits and fans think, I have never been impressed with Terry Venables's knowledge of the game when he's on TV. He talks a lot of crap and doesn't make sense half the time, so I'm not surprised by his oversight of Barca's high defensive line.
