Coventry City Football Club can confirm a second bid from Nottingham Forest for striker Leon Best has been turned down.

Responding to news that the East Midlands outfit had made an improved offer for Best, Sky Blues Chairman Ray Ranson said:

"I can confirm that the Club received a revised offer from Nottingham Forest this morning for Leon Best's registration.

"This offer was immediately rejected out of hand.

"Coventry City wants to retain all of its players that it sees as having a major part to play in the future development of the Club and Leon is definitely one of those players."

Nottingham Forest have confirmed they have increased their bid for Coventry's young striker Leon Best.

Forest are believed to have had an offer of £600,000 rejected earlier this month as Coventry manager Ian Dowie attempts to keep the player at the Ricoh Arena.

The 21-year-old striker started his career as a trainee with Southampton before joining Coventry back in July and has since made 16 appearances for the Sky Blues - scoring three goals.

Forest have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Best so far, and Dowie has recently told Coventry's official website that he believes Best will become a key player for Coventry.

"We think he has fantastic potential and his record shows he gets goals." He said.

£1.1 mill now!

Skysports.com understands Coventry have rejected a third bid from Nottingham Forest for striker Leon Best.

League One hopefuls Forest are keen on bringing Best to the City Ground to boost their promotion bid and have already seen two bids rejected by Coventry.

Forest are refusing to give up on their pursuit of Best and are believed to have tabled a £1.1million bid for his services.

Best has admitted he is flattered by Forest's interest and he is believed to be open to a move to his hometown club.

Coventry are keen to keep hold of the former Southampton hit-man, although Forest are still hopeful of pushing through a deal before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month.
