Lillehamring Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 ok, now i wasn't at the game of course, so maybe someone can clear things up. for the last few games i have listened to (and i know barber is shit, but he has actually been commentating the last few games), it sounds like, on many occasions, and this i think goes back all season, but many times i have heard reference to some shocking clearances and distribution from macauley whilst stearman seems to be perpetually slaughtered on FT for his hoof-tactics, macualey seems to often come away with decent ratings. is it just that people want stearman to fail, or that macauley is actually quite good?

Joe. Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Stearman isn't good and McAuley generally is. That's about the size of it.
Koke Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Apart from his distribution which is nothing else but woeful, McAuley actually is quite good at what he does. He heads, tackles and marks his man fairly well. Its his passing that lets him down quite badly. Stearman on the other hand is not only a poor/average right back but he also hoofs the ball whenever he can.
davieG Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 I thought they both had a decent game to day apart from Stearman's near suicidal cock up with Alnwick. As for the hoofing I think it will take time for all the defenders to get this out of there system they've been so used to having useless feckwits in front of them that old habits die hard. Surely they will be capable of short passes to one of todays 4 mid-fielders? They've also got to be aware and available promptly when the goalie has the ball in his hands so that he has other options other than hoofing it. I think we need to give them all time to adapt to having a midfield. Their defending is obviously adequate because between them they managed to stunt an attack, that has previously been on a purple patch to such an extent that I couldn't tell from that performance how competent Alnwick is.
