Sparky Posted 8 March 2008 Posted 8 March 2008 Do you think when Wales win this they'll be the worst team ever to win the tournament? The six nations have never been so poor surely. Gotta give credit where its due , 4 wins from 4 including wins at twickers and croke park is incredible , Gatland Edwards and Ryan Jones deserve massive credit and pains me to say it but if they go on to beat France and pick up the Grand slam it will be a massive achievment *i stayed out of this thread for long *
Finnegan Posted 8 March 2008 Author Posted 8 March 2008 I really don't see you beating the Irish at Croke Park - Do you seriously think Shanklin is good enough to compete with O'Driscoll??? And with possibly Shane Horgan on the opposite wing to Williams - Williams won't get a look in. The only place I can see you winning it is in the forwards , and Hook and Phillips play as the half-backs Ahah. Aahah... hah.. haha.... hahaha... hahaha, haha. AHha. Ahha. Ahah.... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Do you think when Wales win this they'll be the worst team ever to win the tournament? The six nations have never been so poor surely. :crylaugh: There are times when I think you actually know this sport and there are times I just think you're a retard. Then there are times I think you MUST just be saying things to get a rise out of me and that's probably one of them. Considering there are only three decent teams in this competition (Ireland, France and Wales) and we're yet to play the best of them I really don't see how you can question the merits of the Welsh side. Defensively, with the exception of about half an hour against England, they have been absolutely phenomenal. Gatland has really kept a hold of the reigns and restricted some of the flair, but we've still come out and scored some fantastic tries and played some great running rugby. It's clearly a work in progress and it hasn't been the most "technically" strong Six Nations ever (though, boy, has it been entertaining if you aren't English!) but there are signs of massive promise from Wales and today we just completely outbossed the Irish. We stood firm and weathered their "storm" in the opening twenty minutes and just absolutely sapped the confidence from the side. O'Sullivan has to go, I thought this BEFORE the tournament, I don't doubt that - but you can't fault Gatland, Edwards and co' or doubt how much they'll deserve it if they can choke out France as well. To claim the Six Nations has never been so pure is ludicrous. For England? Maybe. But for the rest of us that just adds to the entertainment. Buy some flares, perm your hair - the 70s are coming back.

Good Luck and I admit it I got it wrong - OK
Finnegan Posted 9 March 2008 Author Posted 9 March 2008 Shanklin and Shane Williams were brilliant, Horgan (try chance aside) and O'Driscoll were terrible. You got it wrong indeed. And yes, Jones' goalkicking was poor but Phillips gave away a silly three points and himself for ten minutes, and it's Jones' defensive solidarity that has him selected and was exactly what we needed. Gatland knows what he's doing, as does Steveo. Job done.
Milky Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 So France need to beat Wales by 20 points then? Should add to the entertainment at least.
Finnegan Posted 9 March 2008 Author Posted 9 March 2008 Correct, for once. Be very surprised if it's not a fairly open, expansive game.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 Wilkinson dropped for Cipriani in only change for England. Strange decision IMO, Wilkinson has been pretty ordinary in open play throughout the campaign but I still would place him ahead of Cipriani, and after last week's shenanigans. It's also baffling that there aren't any other changes.

dandannieldanok Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 You can't get the wooden spoon. You can't win the tournament. Why WOULDN'T you experiment? I just think it's harsh on Wilkinson, especially considering he's the only change. He was one of the worst against the Scots but if he is to be dropped then so should many others.
Finnegan Posted 11 March 2008 Author Posted 11 March 2008 I just think it's harsh on Wilkinson, especially considering he's the only change. He was one of the worst against the Scots but if he is to be dropped then so should many others. Two things to consider, though: 1. Wilkinson was only playing because Cipriani goofed up and was subsequently rather badly handled. 2. You're thinking in logical terms, Brian Ashton doesn't. But, no, fook Wilkinson. He probably doesn't care whether he plays or not - he certainly isn't performing like he does, ship him out. You don't have over whelming depth in the squad and stand off is probably the most influential position on the park, changing your 10 can make a massive difference. Anyway, it really isn't a slight against Wilkinson, Cipriani is the current, emerging golden boy of English rugby and he needs to get his chance in this tournament. So here goes. You're crap. You're out of the running. It really doesn't matter whether you win, lose or draw - you'll have no better time to put Cipriani in and give him a go. Wilkinson's past it, anyway, which is a shame for a lad so young. If Ashton's going to be axed at the end of the tournament that decision's already been made, he's just playing for pride now. There'd be more pissed off people if he stuck with Wilko than put Cipriani in, trust. Ask Masters.
ASH17LCFC Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 Finns, what is bigger news in Wales atm ... Cardiff getting to the semi finals or Wales doing so well at rugby ?
Finnegan Posted 11 March 2008 Author Posted 11 March 2008 Finns, what is bigger news in Wales atm ... Cardiff getting to the semi finals or Wales doing so well at rugby ? You really have to ask? Football is the second sport in Wales. And Cardiff are one out of three fairly sized clubs. And half of Wales supports Liverpool and Man Utd anyway.
ASH17LCFC Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 You really have to ask? Football is the second sport in Wales. And Cardiff are one out of three fairly sized clubs. And half of Wales supports Liverpool and Man Utd anyway. So the Rugby ? You win the 6 nations quite alot though and what with Cardiff getting to Wembley thought all the armchair fans would start to come out now.
Finnegan Posted 11 March 2008 Author Posted 11 March 2008 I imagine there is a bit of that going on, some of the above mentioned Liverpool/Man Utd fans suddenly have blue blood around the Cardiff area and all of that. But you have to remember, a lot of North and West Wales will be hoping Barnsley shaft the fook out of the Bluebirds. But narh, we've been fairly average / poor in the rugby for about 20 odd years now, really. And we're slowly beginning to gather momentum again. So this is a really, really exciting time for us in the egg chasing.
Sparky Posted 11 March 2008 Posted 11 March 2008 Perfect time to play Cipriani at 10 , im a big fan of his and its time to throw him in and am glad its at the expence of Wilko. Im not writing Wilko off i just think the situation allows Cipriani to express himself without the usual pressure of a 6 Nations big match. I was talking to Finners the other night and said that would be my choice although i also said id rather have my Grandma at full back than Balshaw. Id have played Baths Nick Abendenon (sp)

Finnegan Posted 12 March 2008 Author Posted 12 March 2008 Fuck me. France have dropped Heymans AND Rougerie. We might win yet.
Finnegan Posted 14 March 2008 Author Posted 14 March 2008 How fooking stupid must Jean Baptiste Elissalde be? The day before a game, as well. I swear the French never, ever learn. Generations and generations of French players, journalists and coaches make the same stupid mistake. Warren Gatland won't even have to motivate his own team, tomorrow, they'll already be fried up. You would have thought afters years of writing off players like Dean Richards and Martin Johnson, only to have them come back and make you regret it, the French would have realized the British (yes, yes, I said it) love nothing more than being written off by cheeky, arrogant opponents. Sorry, Jean Baptiste, who was the last team to win the Grand Slam? Sorry, Jean Baptiste, who is the most notorious team in the tournament for bottling in front of their own fans? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we WILL win - but win or lose, that's just abject stupidity from the French scrum half.
Sparky Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 All the best today Finners , will be some acheivement if u guys can pull it off .
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 March 2008 Posted 15 March 2008 99.9% of the time, I'd be on my way to West Bromwich at the moment but as it is, the beers have been bought, the Iwan Is A Welshman t-shirt is on, the Welsh flag is flying proudly from the upstairs window and I'm looking forward to it. Cymru am byth.
