A Possible Solution to our Problem

Martin Allen brought Ade Stovell in when he was manager ;)

Gary Megson actually, but I doubt he's the problem either.

No and No, however I appreciate your scepticism.

All managers should have some sort of confident to bounce their ideas and experience off, especially in relation to man management. They don't even have to know anything about football, its about getting the best out of the people you instruct. The very fact there are a bunch of dynamics involved in managing a team that comes down to how you interact with people, such as emotion, appearance, attitude delivery of communication...etc ...etc..

In my assessment we have a group of individuals who have all had relationships with numerous managers whom respectively have demanded different levels of effort, playing styles, roles and boundaries.

Imagine going to work and the particular aspects of your role which you enjoy and feel you are good at are not appreciated by your new boss and you are given new instructions perform differently and in a different role..... for a few weeks you must be thinking "what the f**k" feeling dejected by the new methods and the teams' performance if you're not achieving your 'goal' - square pegs in round holes is one thing, now consider you are Ian Hume?.... How fed up do you think he is tonight?

A clinical supervisor would listen to a manager feeding back his methods to players who may have a working knowledge (or not) of those which the manager is supervising and assist in offering alternative approaches.

I'll give you a basic example, if my boss comes up to me and says, "what's your opinion on this" I give him my answer and then he says "what do you think you would do about this and how would you best deal with it to ensure we get the desired result?" I will then end up telling him exactly the same thing (if the question is phrased and presented correctly) that he wanted without him walking in to a room and saying "Do this" when my ego and pride, workload and propensity to blame others may have got in the way.

Having someone working with players to forge closer understanding of each other, their needs from their colleagues and understanding of the way they play by forging motivational partnerships, playing and communication styles would also be useful. Me and you may not agree with each other but if we had to complete a military night exercise together evading capture and a kicking we would have a bond from that experience which would mean that we would know how to work effectively together whether we liked each other or not.

I'm not some pink and fluffy counseling warm hug merchant but I do have insight in to man management skills and how to develop them. I am sure in your life there have been times when you could have dealt with intense, emotional and confrontational situations differently, clinical supervision gives you ideas in how not to screw it up. Footballers are proud, egotistical, people in general to deal with and that is a tough audience to motivate instruct and set boundaries for week in week out. Christ, for this to work effectively the team needs to feel like something close to a family whether they like each other or not. I am willing to bet that the dressing rooms in the top four clubs in the country are like this and its not just winning that they have in common.

If you think that many high profile football managers, people in pressure jobs in the government and business don't have mentors/sponsors/supervisors you are mistaken.

As a manager your job is to get the best out of your staff and having someone to bounce ideas off confidentially is surely good practice.

Managers need to motivate players to perform well in their holistic lifestyles and attitude not just 9-5.

i'll take your word for it and maybe MM will give you a job on the strength of it

now; how about getting "spiritual guru" Elaine Drewery in, and maybe enlisting Russell Grant as club astrologer to the players

cheers nick

Bet that's exactly what Shanks,Cloughie,Ramsey et al, used to ponder on...prat! :frusty:

Wind your neck in sunshine, why are you calling me a prat, I gave an articulate well grounded response and you give me abuse.

Shanks Cloughie and Ramsey I'm sure had role models and were very successful managers and maybe didn't need the support.

I was talking about Holloway who isn't showing much sign of success.

It's a proposal, a point of view where's your ideas or solutions in the thread?
