Shadow_King Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Congradulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins i am glad they beat the Red Wings, i hate them so much.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 How good were the two saves by the pens goalie in the last couple of second. Also is it mandatory to have a beard to play in the NHL?

I don't know who started the trend, but it goes back quite a while (to the New York Islanders in the 80ies, I think). Mandatory only if you actually have enough facial hair to grow one - just look at Sid the Kid who'll probably never get there. For everything else, there's always Playoff Beard ©.
Jordan Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 I can't think of anything in sports that's more riveting than Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Last night's game had all the intensity and anxiety one would expect in such a huge game. Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins for really coming through in the clutch. Down 2-0, and then down 3-2,;when it was time to put up or shup up, Pittsburgh did the job just as they did when they were in jeopardy of missing the playoffs with just a couple of months to go in the season. Pittsburgh did a phenomenal job of holding off the Wings last night at the end (also played nearly half the game without Sid the Kid), albeit with just a little bit of fortune. Marc-Andre Fleury made a serious statement to all his critics. Alex, congrats on your team's massive win. Ray Shero made all the right moves this year. And speaking of playoff beards, Mario Lemieux was never into it during his playing days, but he was rocking a killer one last night. This might have something to do with it.
MC Prussian Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 All in all, I'm just glad the Pens have won it again after 17 years of misery (more or less). Crosby, Malkin and Fleury are the cornerstones of this phenomenal, young and talented squad. But of course, all the other not-so-known teammates like Talbot, Cooke, Staal, Gill, Orpik, Kunitz, Kennedy, Eaton, Dupuis or old irons like Gonchar, Satan, Guerin or Sykora have contributed a lot to the recent success. I tuned in last night during the third period, saw the 2-0 scoreline and immediately started to get this healthy nervousness (the one you get when you know it can't really go wrong anymore). As expected, Pittsburgh had to endure a lot of pressure from the Red Wings, particularely towards the end where the shot-on-goal ratio grew to immense proportions in favour of Detroit. My Canadian buddies are well happy with this year's winner - the team with the most Canucks on board has done it. Oh, and a big laugh goes to Marian Hossa - losing out in the final last year with Pittsburgh to Detroit, then traded to the Red Wings only to miss out on the trophy again.
Shadow_King Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 To be fair I think if the pens had hossa they would not have won the stanley cup, good thing he was not with the team, also you noticed rangers are the only team in the nhl to not go with playoffs beards during the playoffs.
