The People's Hero Posted 5 August 2016 Author Posted 5 August 2016 My hair line is receding, I have got fat, I can no longer drink properly or do late nights. I'm not 33 yet. Enjoy!

The People's Hero Posted 6 August 2016 Author Posted 6 August 2016 Loads of York fans about in Maidstone. Long journey that. Respect.
IrememberBobHazell Posted 10 August 2016 Posted 10 August 2016 That Youtube clip brought back some memories. Fitzpatrick, Gibson, Platnauer, Oldfield, Kitson, Kelly, Mills, James and of course Tommy Wright. Players you have tried hard to forget but never quite managed to.

Why would you try hard to forget Tommy Wright?!
IrememberBobHazell Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 Ah that's a good point. He was the bright spot on some very dark days. That whole team was obviously talented, with a couple of very low level additions they went from avoiding relegation on the last day to, sadly, avoiding missing automatic promotion on the last day the next season. Just better lead by Little than they had been under Pleat. I have also forgot the cult figure of the Rooster. Apart from a couple of last minute winners (one against Tranmere and I think one against Blackburn???) I don't recall him doing much but what a terrace hero.
thursday_next Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 I remember Bexley United - sadly now deceased, playing at the old Maidstone United ground in the early 70's. They were top of the table, we were near bottom, and they battered us. Somehow it was 1-0 in the 70th minute, and we scored a totally improbable equaliser, In the 93rd minute we got a penalty, and Steve Coventry (what a name!) scored. They gave us pelters sitting in the bus. We deserved it.

I think the additions of people like Poole before the season then some shrewd signings such as Whitlow, Grayson and even Gee and Ormondroyd were the best bits of business we did then. Gary Mills had a great season. Good to see Maidstone back on the up.
