Alexikokopops Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 ... there are precious few decent bands from leicester, only 'family' spring to mind, the rest are so-so, oh sorry, didn't the drummer from queen come from leicester, too? ... The drummer of Queen came from Oadby ... It wasn't the drummer. It was John Deacon, the bassist. My mum went to school with him.

Fosse Boy Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Jon Lord, Deep Purple organist, is from Leicester. As was Tony Kaye, formerly of Yes. Hardly makes Leicester the fourth most musical city though...
Ultra Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 But Guns 'N' Roses wrote in honour of us!Surely that deserves some form of recognition?

Deathside Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 The top 3 I can appreciate... but isn't Leicester mainly Mark Morrison and one of the fellas out of Showaddywaddy? Oi Hero - What about Wave Of Fear But your right we have no venues for up and coming bands to play so we will always be behind Gun City in terms of youth culture. Crap really. What's up with The Shed then?
Chairman of the Bored Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 No one has mentioned Family. One of the best bands from the early 70s. No one mentioned my band either, Matt Emulsion and the Undercoats.........although we never got out of the garage.

Chairman of the Bored Posted 24 June 2008 Posted 24 June 2008 Fairly do's. The Family offspring, so to speak, was a band called Streetwalkers. Roger Chapman was a fantastic lead singer, Lest-ah born and bread. One of my best ever weekends (1976): Friday night: Dr Feelgood at Manchester Free Trade Hall Saturday afternoon: Leicester 3, Burnely 2 Saturday night: Streetwalkers at Leicester Uni Quality
