Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Apparently they're stopping people riding their bikes down New Walk today. A colleague of mine has just upset some bloke by refusing to back up his claim made to a police officer that a PCSO 'assaulted' him. She didn't back you up because it's a lie, you tool. He also claimed that he doesn't have to stop for a PCSO (wrong, PCSOs can detain you even though they cannot arrest you) and that he was effectively his boss. Right. He then tried to intimidate my colleague in front of the police officer who came to the scene to sort it out. The outcome of all this? A fine, funnily enough, whereas those that got off their bike when asked and didn't get straight back on it were allowed to carry on
JadeFalcon Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 unless there is a sign saying "no cycling" that is in the actual highway code then they can request you not cycle, but they cannot make you stop same thing goes for cars on road, even if there is a 30mph sign, if it does not conform to the highway code regulations then the sign does not apply -=edit=- there has to be a sign, standard red circle with a cyclist in it, IF it is classed as a road, otherwise it is classed as a pavement then there is no cycling allowed on pavements in highway code, if it is no longer a road then it has to be correctly deregulated.. remeber something on road deregulation i saw on a site, found it here at http://www.abd.org.uk/30.htm <--- useful for speeding fines and other such stuff
Guest Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 New Walk is a pedestrianised footpath, and every other lampost down there says "No Cycling". I blame the lowering of educational standards for the inability to read these signs. People didn't cycle down New Walk in the days of the 11 Plus.
JadeFalcon Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 a lot of councils dont actually follow their own laws but if it follows the laws and regulations, then they get what they deserve
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 August 2008 Author Posted 21 August 2008 I think the clue's in the name. I think what they're doing today is great. PCSOs are politely asking people to dismount (from their bikes, not their partners), and when they ignore them and either don't stop or get straight back on again, they radio ahead and another PCSO rather less politely hands them a fixed penalty

JadeFalcon Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 like i said if they cant read signs then they deserve fixed penalty, i also think they should bring in jay walking here aswell. if u drive a car round leicester u will know the shear numbers that just walk out infront of cars and expect them to stop, even yards from zebra crossings/ traffic lights.... i saw one lady on welford road try n walk 2 children less than 7 years old across it... 10 meters from a crossing, but when they get killed it yet again will be drivers fault

Ric Flair Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Walked down there earlier and saw a few fines being dished out, quite amusing. I tried to run as quick as a bike to see if that broke any laws either, but the woman just looked at me as if I was a goober.
Katy Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 They still have the 11+ in Lincolnshire And people still park where they're not supposed to and cycle where they're not supposed to. Well they do in North Kesteven anyway
