Craig King

Just been reading through your match-thread as a lad who I went to school with (Craig King) told me he'd made it onto the bench for your lot!

Just wondered if he'd played before for the first team or was this his first appearence, even though it was on the bench?

That picture on that page definitely isn't Kingy btw!

I can't start a topic for some reason but hope somebody see's this! You've got one hell of a player trust me... He was a class above everybody else in our football team and most other teams round Derbyshire we played. He had an offer from Man U and Leicester, obviously he chose you, in my opinion he does have the potential to become a very good championship/premiership player someday. I'm not just spouting shit either, I'm a really big football fan myself (a Mansfield Town fan at that) and just thought I'd let you know.

Keep an eye out for him

EDIT: Thankyou to the mod who did this for me.

Being named in the squad will have been a massive boost for Craig King and a reassuring sign that he's getting noticed by Nigel Pearson.

He scored for the Academy on Saturday against Newcastle and looks likely to play more as a central striker this season as opposed to the wider role he played last year.

Whether he'll get the service this season and therefore the opportunity to shine that some of his predecessors have had remains to be seen. As I've explained to someone else earlier this evening, it's not every season you get the likes of Gradel, Beswick, Chambers, McKay, Odhiambo, Andy King and Mattock in the same side.

But King Craig has a formidable strike partner in fit again Billy Kee, there are high hopes for Jorrin John, Robbie Burns and Elliott Chamberlain; Lee Cox and Luke O'Neill have already made an impression and we have a giant defender in Cian Bolger so the side may yet prove quite formidable.

Craig King is a busy sort of player. Even as an under 16 player he appeared in the under 18 side and has since had several run-outs in the reserves. His big challenge is to take a touch or two less and to balance the choices between going for individual glory and working effectively within the team.

It will certainly be interesting to see how he progreses and what he achieves.

That sounds just like the Kingy I know. I know he was in the u18's when he was younger as I've kept in touch with him a bit after leaving school and he always tells him how he's getting on.

As for how he played, I had the pleasure to play up the left with him now and again as he played on the left wing for us now and again and he'll always find space. He's very strong for his age and not like other youth players in that he won't get knocked off the ball a lot. His only problem is trying to do too much as you say.

Good luck to him and Leicester.

He's a greedy bastard though.

I dont rate him really, when i watched him against Palace last year for U18's he looked very poor.

As mentioned before, he tries to do too much.

Good prospect though.

I first saw Craig King during the 2006/07 pre-season training with some of the other young lads. He looked massive compared to the rest. They were calling him Kingy and I thought it was Andy King to begin with. I watched him play for the under 16s a few times and then he made it on to the under 18s bench as that season progressed. Didn't see much of him last season but he took his goal well on Saturday. Good to hear he chose us over Manchester United. A wise choice too really.

He'd got a year and some to make up on most that day and some of those Palace players are now first team regulars. He still made a worthwhile contribution and has done so increasingly since. This season is a massive year for him. Like Matock his physical size and strength will start being neutralised and it will be down to how much he listens, learns and develops his skills.
