Corky Posted 21 October 2008 Posted 21 October 2008 Last home game was some time in 1992/3 - can't actually remember the game. Last away game was that Millwall game. Up until the Wednesday before, we had 3 methods of getting to the game. A day later, every single one was gone. As it turned out, I had a major asthma attack the day before the game. I refused to go to hospital for fear they would admit me, as I was still planning to go down to the Den and somehow get in. Despite being unable to walk more than a couple of hundred feet at a time, Carl still had to lock me in the house on the day of the game. I did not handle it well at all. Before that, the last game I missed was the Man City cup game up at Maine Road, which we won (Mark Robins the scorer). This was because my mean boss wanted assert his authority by refusing my request for holiday that afternoon. Needless to say, he never did it again. Blimey, I felt for the fans who couldn't go to Millwall. At least we did the same for the home match. Was the Robins match when it chucked it down?

Yes, it was. Think the ball got stuck in a puddle by the corner flag, and Jamie Lawrence crossed it in. I was told how fantastic the atmosphere was, and that made me feel even worse! Where else would you find nutters who get upset about missing a good soaking on a cold night in January?
Simi Posted 21 October 2008 Posted 21 October 2008 Just out of interest, what advice can you give to someone not used to missing games? At the moment, the thought reduces me to tears.NB. There is no sarcasm at all in this post. When I miss a game it drives me mad as well, I usually just seperate myself completely from anything football. I usually only find out the score the next day because it drives me crazy, if I get a text from someone at the game it makes me want to be there and I hate it. So my advice would be just occupy yourself with things other than football.

But I won't be able to focus on them as I'll be too busy wondering about the score, how we're playing etc. I should be able to listen to the radio whilst going home, but I really do not want people texting me the score. I think that's what's going to set me off. I've still got a week to go.....

I try to put the match to the back of my mind but it's hard. I've missed some absolute crackers, like the Leeds 4-0, all the Worthington Cup matches in 1999/2000, beating Forest 1-0 in 2003. I bet you don't get nervous before every match, like I used to be up until the start of the 2007 season. Pathetic really, isn't it?

Pathetic really, isn't it? Some games I do. I get so worried, I'll be there welling up before kick off!! Especially for the more important games, like Sheff Weds and Stoke at the end of last season, or first game of every season, and so on. Now that is pathetic!!
