Many continental keepers elect to punch when theres no reason to, Barthez isnt like that, which I like about him.

He's made countless of (unnecessary) howlers and he doesn't communicate well at all with his defences. How often have you not seen Barthez come out flying to punch/intercept a cross, to the total surprise of his defenders, and miss it completely, leaving him stranded out in no-mans-land? Sure, he's an excellent shot stopper, but there are plenty of those around. I only rate two French 'keepers at the current time, Frey and Landreau (and Pegguy of course )
