If anyone is interested in tracing their ancestors, you can find some useful information here.

People power has seen the 1911 census details being released earlier than the scheduled 2012 date, following a successful challenge under the Freedom of Information

CENSUS SENSITIVITIES

The 1911 census is not covered by The Census Act 1920, which required the closure of subsequent censuses for 100 years

A challenge was made under the Freedom of Information Act to have access to the 1911 census earlier than the customary 100 years

Following referral, the Information Commissioner ruled that access should be given

Personally sensitive information such as "details of infirmity or other health-related information" will not be released until 2012

I'm interested in tracing my family tree, and have started some work on it. I know where my great-granddad was born. I know where. I also know where and when he married my great-grandmother. But the only man the same age and name was registered to an address in West Ham.

This is not right.

Wasn't Irish by any chance was he? From what I am led to believe, Irish records pre 1900 were destroyed.

Nope. From Leicester.

I have looked at the 1901 census, and not only did I find great-granddad, but I found great-great-granddad!

That's cool, though you have to pay for the more detailed information which is a bit of a bummer.

It's not too badly priced, the main gripe I have is you have only 7 days in which to use them.

I think I shall save it for a summer project.
