Ultra Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 The Argie Angel Cabrera won it after a three-way play-off. That's three majors in a row which Americans haven't won.
Thracian Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Perry was in pole position to strike a blow for us old uns by becoming the oldest guy to win a Masters and he'll wonder for the rest of his life how he managed to blow it. Cabrera, meanwhile, will feel like he can walk on water after hitting his tee shot into the woods and fizzing his recovery shot into another tree but finally, and luckily, into a position out in the open where he could and did attack the pin. He's made himself into some golfer for a guy who started off caddying for the equivalent of £4 a round.

Well, technically, I guess Cabrera is an American. Just because "Statesians" have hijacked the name of their whole continent (mutter, mutter, mutter) Perry was in pole position to strike a blow for us old uns by becoming the oldest guy to win a Masters and he'll wonder for the rest of his life how he managed to blow it. When he was stuck behind that tree he must have thought he'd blown it. Great come back and that putt on the 18th hole playoff was a real pressure shot for him to hold his nerve!
Ultra Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 I felt a lot of sympathy for Perry. He never put a foot wrong until the last two holes. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, playing together on the last day, both finished a lot higher than I'd have expected after the first two days.
Vardinhio Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Put £10 on Cabrera E/W at 9/4 yesterday, thought he'd blown it at those trees but came in and won £47 for me decided to stick £16 quid on lcfc v leeds and returned back £38 then put all the £38 on Tranmere to beat Hereford - made £52
