Knighton Matt Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 From bbc sport http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...own/4512811.stm Swindon manager Andy King has conceded he has his work cut out to keep star striker Sam Parkin for another season. "He will probably end up moving in the summer and that will be a nightmare for this club - I cannot replace his goals. "He has another year but there are parts in his contract that allow him to speak to people and the monetary terms in his deal mean the bids will come in. "I know we've had a bid this week. He's 24 and feels he needs to move his career on," King told BBC Sport. "If we had gone up I know he would have stayed with the club and finalised the ambition of getting into the Premiership. "But I feel he's done his three-year apprenticeship and if someone offers the money, he's an ambitious boy and he wants to play at a higher level. "My job is to get a team together quickly and convince him we can do it here." He's done it consistently every year and he's the best player in the division Andy King Parkin has scored 22 goals this term and has reached at least 20 in each of his three seasons at the County Ground - statistics fit for graduation to the Championship. But King's frustration at losing the former Chelsea youth player is compounded by the fact he will not see much in financial recompense if, or more pertinently when, a move occurs. "There's a contractual agreement and it ain't as much as we should get, but the offers are already in for him at that level," King added. "Hull last year offered the same sort of money, but whether they'll do it again this summer having won promotion I don't know. "I don't see why all of a sudden Peter Taylor would change his mind in 12 months because the boy has got his goals again. "He's done it consistently every year and he's the best player in the division. Leroy Lita's done it for one year with Bristol City. Let's see if he does it three years on the trot. "If I've taught him anything I've taught him to take the most ambitious route and not money. Money comes with success. If he chooses the right club the success will come." And after all we all know peter taylor can pick his strikers don't we
Ric Flair Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 He's the target man we could do with and as their manager has said he could be available for peanuts. We could do alot worse than Parkin, 20 goals a season is a nice asset to have. Especially as we already have one. The more the merrier.
TrickyTrev Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 Obviously depends how much this release clause is, but if it is affordable he sounds like a sensible long-term option, althoughI must confess to only having seen him play on ahandful of occasions.
Anish Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 His record speaks for itself, although we thought the same about Connolly too. Still, we could do a lot worse, and he still has age on his side.

Leicesterboi Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 No not atall pal jsu pleased that he has been bought to peoples attention. i pay alot of attention to the lower leagues, especially since the lack of funds has had a huge effect on the game and IMO this guy would compliment Connolly, or Mcsheffrey a treat
step Posted 4 May 2005 Posted 4 May 2005 I can never work out how these managers think. I have a striker that i dont want to leave my club So Ill talk to the press, telling everyone how good he is, how many goals he has got, and how he can succeed at a higher level, then tell them how I dont want them to leave. Utter balls. He is selling the guy and doing a good job of it, because if he wanted to keep him he would not be talking to the press about him.

He was born in the same place as Matt Elliott. I think he will go and that King is trying to sell him. Why? There is "a clause in his contract", you know one of those, and it is better to cash in now, no matter how small an amount that might be, rather than wait until next year when he will go for nothing.
