jimmer Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 Not sure on the point of this poll? Its obvious we need to strengthen in most areas, Goalies and strikers inparticular. Why can i only click on one option surely one option is not enough for an assault on the championship?
Thracian Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Goalkeeper, right back, left-back, central midfield, centre-forward. Not a lot is it! Henderson (going) Edworthy (release) Kisnoro (going) Gilbert (Unlikely to return) Tunchev (retain but has still to regain his fitness after lon term injury) Clemence (retire) Cleverley (try to get back on loan) Oakley (skipper) Howard (retain) Campbell (inevitably on his way but it's a pity as we need some pace) Dyer (retain) Fryatt (retain and hope) Logan (will surely be off) Weso (release) Morrison (retain) Adams (release) N'Gotty (pension off) Psssh (will go but should be kept and used) Hayles (pension off) Worley (release) Chambers (release) Gradel (retain) Mattock (sell) Andy King (retain) Hobbs (retain) Martin (presumably returned to sender) Dickov (release) O'Neill (release) Powell (coaching role) Craig King (loan out) Berner (release) Cisak (release) Verma (loan out) Pentney (loan) Brown (retain), Stockdale (try to retain on loan) Warner (will be gone) Adjarevic (presumably returned to sender). That's only 11/12 players I'd expect and approve of being here from last season for the new season The guy from Hearts is an addition, for better or worse, so we need at least 11/12 more. And preferably some inspired choices.
Thracian Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 I'd say offense wins matches, defense wins the Championship. We need a good, strong, reliable keeper on a multiyear contract! It's been a while since we had such a commanding person in between posts. And the days of Leicester goalkeeping glories are fading away... (Not to say that our offense needs some strenghtening, too) Our defence functioned well enough two seasons ago yet we got relegated. Reading scored lots when they went up - as we did this season. It is possible to be successful a la George Graham but not very likely. We need attacking potential in as many positions as possible. Plus pace and the all round ability to pass the ball quickly and accurately.

Legend_in_blue Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 We still need to strengthen in all areas. That means getting in 2 GKs, 1 RB for cover, 1 CM, 2 wingers and 2 strikers. Like I have said before, MM touting 6 players is not enough, we need 8 or 9.

The Blur Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Midfield Keepers can be easily loaned in as witnessed by Pearson's example this season Strikers department is thin but Midfield require more players ( 4 per a match compared to 2 per match strikers so if any of our first choices got crocked we are fooked) Midfielders ( Dyer or Gradel) can also play off a striker briefly but I can't see Dickov doing a job in centre of the park
