Matt Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Portsmouth chairman Peter Storrie has stated that a big money offer for right-back Glen Johnson has been received. The England full-back has been the subject of speculation linking him with a move away from Fratton Park for the majority of the season, and he could now make a move in the summer. The bid is thought to be somewhere worth between £15 million and £20 million. The clubs thought to be interested in the ex-West Ham United player are his former club Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City. City were rumoured to have put in a bid of £18 million in the last couple of days, but it is now thought that the bid has come in from either the Blues or the Reds. Storrie claimed that the club would not stand in the way of the player's chance to play Champions League football next season, and it is believed that Liverpool would be his preferred destination after a previously disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge. Johnson has recently criticised his former employers for not giving him enough chances in the first team, and is reportedly not keen on a return to the Blues. However, a move for the 24-year-old now seems likely as he looks to take a step up in his career. Impressed me big time in the couple of England games - Not sure about £15 to 20 million though but I suppose that is the price of and English player these day. Not really watched him before. Didn't realise he was 24 either, I thought he was younger than that.

I just saw this on SSN, they said that chelsea ans liverpool had both made bids between 15 - 18 mil adn Man city are just intressted and not made a bid yet.
Joe. Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Ridiculous. Is there really that much of a lack of quality in right backs these days that people have to resort to spending £15-20m on Glen Johnson?!
lildave3 Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Quality player, but that is far too much. Why do Chelsea even want him anyway, nothing wrong with Bosingwa/Ivanovic. And din't they sell him for like, 3 million just a couple of years ago?
MarkDeVries Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Ridiculous. Is there really that much of a lack of quality in right backs these days that people have to resort to spending £15-20m on Glen Johnson?! True, 12m sounds about right imo. I think he will go to Man City, even though they haven't tabled a bid.

Big Ol' Bob Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Pretty woeful for most of the Kazakhstan game, then obviously did well when not having to defend against Andorra. He is no way worth £18 million. This will be the best time for pompey to sell though, can't see him being worth much more whilst he is there.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Well over-inflated price but he is England's best right-back atm. If he has any sense he'll move to Man City and not Liverpool or Chelsea.

I would chose Liverpool because of history and a quality side that will challenge for the title once again.
Fox You Forest Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Ridiculous. What the price? Or the fact people keep starting threads about every player going when there is a sticky at the top.
dandannieldanok Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Why Man city?I would chose Liverpool because of history and a quality side that will challenge for the title once again. First team football almost guaranteed, plus he'd probably get a bigger wage.
Edmund Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 Johnson started his career as a junior team player with Leicester City F.C.. He was released as a 12 year old and then found himself as a West Ham United F.C. junior From Wikipedia. Someone posted this the other day. Not sure if it's fact
AyewJoking Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 He should go to spurs. Admittedly, there are better teams interested but the reason he got his career back on track was Harry Redknapp.
