MPH Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Fridays mercury: A cyclist who waged a bizarre seven-year campaign of attacks on pedestrians has been banned from the saddle.Gurnaik Singh Dogra became notorious in Leicester for riding at pedestrians and punching or kicking them as he went past. About 40 people have complained about him since 2002, but police believe other victims have never come forward. Now Dogra has been hit with an Asbo which bars him from riding his bike in a large swathe of the city, including parts of Clarendon Park and the city centre. That means 37-year-old, of Penrith Road, Rushey Mead, can be arrested and possibly jailed if he is caught riding or even pushing his bike through those streets. While he can still ride elsewhere, the order means he can still be arrested if he threatens or assaults anyone. One of his victims welcomed the order, which was applied for by officers at Welford Road police station. The 32-year-old, who lives in Clarendon Park, was attacked as he walked along London Road last year. He said: "He kicked me and it was hard enough to knock me to the floor. "He needs to get help, really. There's obviously something wrong with him and he seems to have been doing this for a long time. There's no logic to it. "If what the police have done here stops him then it's good news because he has been a menace." Inspector Richard Toone, of Welford Road police, whose officers applied for the Asbo, said: "His behaviour has continued for some years and this order will hopefully curb his offending. "It's an odd case and it is very much down to this man now because he will be arrested if he breaches this order." Dogra appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday where he was jailed for 12 weeks for two counts of assault and one offence of threatening behaviour. He admitted the offences. The Asbo, which will last for five years, will come into effect when Dogra is released from prison. Under the Asbo, Dogra cannot ride or push his bike in Victoria Park and the following streets: Welford Road, Avenue Road, Avenue Road Extension, London Road, Granby Street, Belvoir Street, Welford Place, Newarke Street, Vaughan Way, the Newarke, Western Boulevard, Upperton Road, Jarrom Street, Infirmary Road. When riding elsewhere he must not cause "harassment, alarm or distress" to any person. i know i shouldnt laugh but it just gave me a mildly amusing image...

Raj Posted 1 September 2009 Author Posted 1 September 2009 Went quite well apparently. Not sure about the turnout, though.. Really well organised and there were thousands of folk on bikes. They should do this on a regular basis to get people on their bikes. I think it was organised by Sky though..... <_<
