Lillehamring Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Very very strange. I don't really know anything major he has done, or that i have heard about.Has he promised the Norweigans something to get this I know he doesn't need it, but don't you get 1 million quid if you get a nobel prize, nice for Mr Obama. The guy who won last year Martti Ahtisaari from Finland: for his important efforts, on several continents, and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts. Over three decades, Obama hasn't been president for a year, so it is very stupid that he does more than 30 years work, Obama doesn't do 1 year and gets it. yeah, to piss off and take his stupid ugly perma-grin with him....
Salieri Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 I've got nothing against President Obama and was glad that he got elected, after the disaster that was Bush anyone was gonna be a step forward. I'm sure he'll go on to be a fine President, but to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at this stage of his tenure is nothing but a joke and an insult to the many deserving candidates of this prestigious award.
Thracian Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 Morgan Tsvangirai: any man that has the balls to take on Mugabe wins in my book Couldn't agree more. I have considerable reservations about Obama. http://feedlot.blogspot.com/2008/02/barack...or-america.html http://www.aim.org/aim-report/is-barack-ob...a-marxist-mole/ And from Organizing for America: ---------------------------------------- Marxists/Socialists/Communists for Obama This group is for self-proclaimed Marxists/Communists/Socialists for the election of Barack Obama to the Presidency. By no means is he a true Marxist, but under Karl Marx's writings we are to support the party with the best interests of the mobilization of the proletariat. Though the Democratic Socialists of America or the Communist Patty of America may have more Socialististic values, it is pointless to vote for these candidates due to the fact that there is virutally no chance they will be elected on a National level. The members of this group are not Leninists, Stalinists, etc. and do not support or condone the actions of North Korea, China, Cuba or any other self-procalimed "Marxist States." They do not in anyway represent the Marxist philosophy nor do they represent Socialism/ Communsim. We support Barack Obama because he knows what is best for the people!
BoneDog Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 I can't understand these folk who say Ob is the 2nd coming. He is just the same, if not worse, than Bush. He has the same folk at the CFR pulling all his strings. He has put some real bad uns in his cabinet (or whatever it's called in America). And to top it off, he has the very same Defence Secretary I think iti is. Mr Gates. How can this man suddenly switch from a Republican party to a Democrat in the very same job he had before the election? There has been no change. Only a change in perception.
haraven Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 I have dual visions on this, the skeptical ones I agree with - especially the fact there are several other candidates who have time and again risked health and their life for a better world for others. The postive I draw from this is that finally USA have a president that reaches out with an open hand instead of a fist to nations and religions. I hope, and believe, that the thought behind this price is to put even more pressure on Obama and the USA to work for all their are worth to rather end wars and struggles than stir them up, and the constant and positive down-sizing of any nuclear business. Thumbs up for that, but I also agree that this is in best case a bold award, in the worst case "light", a gamble .. I have great expectations of Barack Obama, and they won't lessen now after this award. Deserved? Time will show. I hope so, it certainly stood out as a "ok?" decision.

I never knew the specifics like you pointed out, but I have to admit that from the very start, even before he was elected, I felt that he would never change anything and it was all just words. He's a great orator and THAT is what got him elected. If the US REALLY wanted change, they would have made sure that Hilary Clinton had won, as it is, they have an inexperienced and indecisive leader in Obama, who is more than likely having all his strings pulled by others rather than controlling things himself.

Hilary probably has more say in things than Obama now IMO even though she's not president. And I agree that he would probably have absolutely no say in policy making whatsoever.
vanfox12 Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 While i agree that Obama doesn't exactly deserve to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize i do think his attempts to reform the Healthcare system in America are socially right. It's scandalous that 40m in any Country let alone one of the richest countries on Earth can't get even get basic healthcare because they can't afford it. The NHS is far from perfect but more of us would be worse off without it. I not a fan of any extreme political thinking be it left wing or right wing but i believe in a fair society and any right thinking person would agree.
Corky Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 Couldn't agree more. Mr. Tsvangirai put his life on the line and lost his wife in his attempts to bring the unstable Zimbabwe back from the brink and yet supposedly, half a year in office, a few proposals and not much else from a President are worthy of the award over his efforts... pathetic. If Obama had any minute amount of decency, he'd reject the award and say it ought to be given so someone more worthy. He didn't ask for the award, he was given it, so why should he give it back?
