Shroomjuice Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 A little bit late but thought I would give you all a little update of the day and some of the stuff I was told. The day was pretty good all of the first team turned up apart from matty Fratt and Andy King who were recieving treatment for minor niggles. We played with Chris Powell, top bloke, didnt hold back from any questions and was happy to answer anything thrown at him. He is desperate to stay at city in a coaching role next year and will defo be calling it a day from playing at the end of this season. He doesnt fancy going back to Charlton, as would like to stay with us and then move onto a new challenge and get a job with a new club on his merits, not his legendary status as he puts it. Maxi Gradel is desperate to get a loan deal in Jan even though he is happy at city, just very frustrated, this might not happen though as Pearson does not want him to go out on Loan. Kermo was signed purley on his finishing ability, apparantly he is the best finisher we have had at the club in the last few years, and is awsome to watch in training. We are going to put a bid in for Waghorn in January, Chris reckons he is the one of the best young talents he has seen and compared him to a young Wayne Rooney. He aslo believes Andy King should start every game, Im not so sure. McGivern is looking shit hot but due to Brunos start to the season has not had a look in, but should he get injured we have nothing to worry about in the left back position. 7 clubs came in for Dj in the summer but for one reason or another terms could not be agreed. He will not be leaving the club in January after apologising to the whole squad. He made a very consious effort on the day with the fans and all the players "to get back in" as chris puts it. Spoke to stephen Clemence, he will play again for us all being well. Levi porter is a gonna. The legends on the day were great and the Q and A back at the walkers with birch was pretty amusing, interesting finding out the truth about La Manga, Peter Taylor etc. Ian Marshall was piss funny, when asked his opinion on peter Taylor he didnt hold back from coming out with "willy puller". He pushed walshy and Cottee out as he didnt like the fact the players looked up to them more than him. Marshall even asked to come back and train with us and was just told to do one. Also i didnt realise that TC has only ever played in europe with City and has only won one medal which was with us. Might all be boring and old news but thought I would just let you all know.

Tony Cottee played for West Ham, Everton, Birmingham, Norwich, Barnet and Millwall as well as Leicester. Are they not in Europe

Great report about the team. I'm interested in where the golf day was and if any of the players are any good. I'd love to go to one of these, any tips?

ousefox Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Cheers for the info. Hopefully we will see a bit of Kermo's finishing on saturday.
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Try to keep the ball on the fairway and put the ball into the little hole on the green in as few a shots as possible. Brilliant. I chuckled to myself when I read that, then scrolled up the page and the ad banner was showing PGA golf coaching
Thracian Posted 15 October 2009 Posted 15 October 2009 Interesting to hear about McGivern. And such a pity he wasn't in the squad at Barwell so we could see exactly what we're missing. Is he the effective attacking full-back we need of what? And why do we never involve him even of the bench? It seems s ironic to me that someone like Neilson walks in the team having convinced no-one of anything while McGivern gets a rave review from one of our most experienced coaches and doesn't get even a few cameo appearances. Is it that the manager doesn't like changing a winning team? I can understand that because it was something I never did. But that was 35 years ago and the game is different now and much more squad based than in the past. Nice to hear Powell's opinion of Kingy especially with Powell having had such a long and illustrious career as a thinking man's footballer. I well understand the Porter comment and don't think the club are wrong, just that's it's a pity. As for the Gradel situation I fail to understand it really. Pearson apparently doesn't want him to go on loan but doesn't seem to want to play him either. I bet Pearson would have loved that as a player. The reason I don't understand it is the contributions of people who have taken his place. I never knew why Gallagher and N'guessan walked into the side so easily in the first place and nothing they have done since has much impresed me at all apart from the threat of N'Guessan in the penalty area rather than on the wing. Gradel was one of our better players against Barwell, particularly in the first half, but it was clear that he's lost his edge due to his lack of relevant match play. He certainly didn't seem to be his usual bubbly self once he was away from the centre-stand fans in the second half. I hope we don't allow him to follow Levi into obscurity. Cos for all Pearson's success we really don't seem to be bringing anyone on to better things beyond Beaglehole. I'm not blaming anyone for that. Just wondering why.

Is he the effective attacking full-back we need of what? He played 90 minutes for Northern Ireland in the Czech Republic the following day.
